They have been doing the same shite since at least 1970, remember back then when Arky played them.

Sounds like they are just disrespectful to people that show them hospitality by inviting them to their campus.

Basically the only difference between the Rice M.O.B. and the Stanford band is the number of asians.

As many as you screen for.

Apparently ESPN was nervous about their performance because Herbie commented on how civil they were.

I guess it's all in how you choose to take them. I don't take them seriously - they're irreverent, sort of Southpark-esque. I choose to be amused rather than offended, and that's my general approach to life. I save the energy of being offended for things I think I can do something about; otherwise, I try to laugh about it, and if I can't I ignore it.

well i pretty much hate halftime shows and marching bands, so a group mocking them won't be objected to by me

I read somewhere that they issued a statement beforehand that they'd be on their best behavior.

I'm not easily offended myself, but this stuff:
quote:

-In 1997, the Band was again disciplined for shows lampooning Catholicism and the Irish at a game against Notre Dame. The Band put on a show entitled "These Irish, Why Must they Fight?" Besides the mocking supposedly stereotypical Irish-Catholic behavior, there was a Riverdance formation, and a Potato Famine joke, drawing criticism[7] for its "tasteless" portrayal of Catholics. Both the band and the Stanford President Gerhard Casper subsequently apologized for the band's behavior. -In 2004, the Band drew national attention and Mormon ire for joking about polygamy during a game against Brigham Young University. The Dollies appeared in wedding veils with the Band Manager of the time kneeling and "proposing" to each in turn as the announcer referred to marriage as "the sacred bond that exists between a man and a woman... and a woman... and a woman... and a woman... and a woman."

Just shows disrespect to me and the only thing I hate more than that is hypocrisy.

I think they're dumb. Sound pretty terrible and their humor isn't anything special.

screw that

it actually shows how hypocritical Notre Dame is.

They had no problem with it during warmups when they thought a Jew was being mocked.

I'm Catholic BTW.

as for the Mormon thing, TFB. They are generally nice people but they have a incredibly hard time owning up their religion's sometimes ugly history.

The Stanford band stands for the exact opposite of what we have come to associate with marching bands; musicianship, pageantry, tradition, discipline and some weird antiquated marching movement.

The Stanford band doesn't wear 19th century style military uniforms, and march around to a beat. It's a bunch of drunk kids, who happen to play instruments, making fun of stuff in front of an audience.

At least South Park is clever and creative (they don't bat 1.000 of course, but they come up with good material).

The Stanford band just tries to push the envelope for the sake of pushing the envelope. You can only ride that for so long until you become lame.
