Which person on this planet has a perfect life? Not a single one.
“They were sad so they killed themselves, please respect the dead.”
“You never know what a person is going through.”

I kind of get it. I have been pretty up front as a poster about my depression, and a lot of the time there is an inability to see past the "failures". A lot of the time, succeeding on something provides no joy, just an okay that's done and was expected to be done. Even when I accomplish something it just feels empty after about 5 minutes.

Personally, I think having some kind of early age adversity is important. It teaches people better coping mechanisms, but it also teaches them those moments aren't the end all be all to their lives
I think this is true.
I was lucky enough to grow up with a near perfect childhood. Didn’t lose any family members. Supportive family. No money problems. Popular in school.
It was to the point As a senior in HS that I very much had the viewpoint that nothing bad could happen to me, because nothing bad ever had up to that point. I thought no matter what I did, everything would always work out.
Then I got to college. It was a tough transition going from popular and “important” person in HS to just another one of 50k kids at college. Lost my grandfather. Then I went through a bad breakup with my longtime girlfriend from HS and I spiraled bad. Those don’t sound like hardships but I hadn’t experienced any whatsoever up to that point.
I became depressed, had a severe mental breakdown that resulted in a psychotic episode and myself being in the mental unit of the hospital for a week. It took me like 3-4 years to fully recover. A lot of times I didn’t think I ever would and had many suicidal thoughts that luckily I never acted on.
All that to say, you never know what someone is going through and even though as an outsider you think someone else has a great life, the mind is impossible to predict or control.

This pretty much describes me. For a moment I'm happy about accomplishing something then it's like "ok that really wasn't a big deal, what's next?"

You guys are giddy that someone died and it definitely wasn't the vaccine. You tried what was talked about in this thread, fooling the Poliboard. Multiple came in and tried to egg it on but it failed miserably. Very cringe. Pitiful display guys.

I can’t understand it myself. However there was a freshman or sophomore at UPenn who ran track, had a 3.5 GPA, from a really supportive family, very pretty girl. Seemed to have everything going for her and so much talent. But she jumped off the parking garage and killed herself a few years ago. She viewed herself as a colossal failure. If that’s being a failure, I don’t even know where to begin
The way I see it, you can have everything and feel like you have nothing at the same time. It’s all about how that individual views themselves vs what everyone else thinks of them.
In my mind, my brother had everything. Nice house, nice family, nice things. He kills himself out of the blue and that house of cards I had built in his name crashed down. I’ve never gotten Over that. You never know what people are dealing with in their lives behind the scenes. I just try to advocate for people to try and get help and support before they act on feelings that tell them that suicide is the best and only option. Your life is important to someone. Probably multiple someone’s.

Weird story developing about this. Her parents said today she was facing a disciplinary hearing soon and received an email about it from Stanford, which they think triggered her suicide.
She was scheduled to graduate in May, so it seems odd that a disciplinary hearing would have that much affect on her.
Not much info out there on what she was in trouble for.

Cheating in school.
No. Her parents said in an interview that it involved some kind of altercation on campus. They didn't know about it until after the fact.
"Katie, being Katie, was defending a teammate on campus over an incident and the repercussions of her defending that teammate [were possibly resulting in disciplinary action]," Steven Meyer said on TODAY.
"We have not seen that email yet," Gina said. "She had been getting letters for a couple months. This letter was kind of the final letter that there was going to be a trial or some kind of something. This is the only thing that we can come up with that triggered something."
"It is not publicly known what the incident was or how Katie was involved, but the Meyers didn't find out about it until after Katie's death. "
Katie Meyer's parents speak out about her death

Wow
If it turns out she was facing something that would prevent her graduation and based on something silly ( colleges are rife with over the top PC bs right now) this could blow up on Stanford big time

I’m not trying to be mean towards these girls, but this has driven many a men off the cliff. It really has. This is just a downfall on putting that weight on your shoulders that traditionally wasn’t there.

It’s honestly bullshite that we’ll get put in time out for posting common sense views on the Political Board, yet the shite in this thread is allowed all day, every day.

Thanks. I figured she got into some kind of trouble.

Obviously no telling if this is accurate but rumor that she threw hot coffee on football player that allegedly sexually assaulted her teammate
And that disciplinary action was coming from that

My instincts say that is false. We’ll eventually find out. Her parents are pretty open, it seems.

So, now we can't discipline someone for fear they may commit suicide?
