You play the anthem too much, it loses its significance imo.
The anthem is not truly about being patriotic and honoring your country. It's moreso just a mindless tradition that we have to do just because. This goes alot deeper than major leagues.
Is it really necessary to play the national anthem at my 8 year old niece's gymnastics competition? Is it really necessary to play it at my older niece high school softball game, where only 7 people are in attendance.
Hell when I played high school ball, we didn't know if the anthem would be played. Sometimes it was, sometimes it wasn't. There was no rhyme or reason other than who was in charge in the box I guess. Nobody really cared enough to complain or anything.

The thing about traditional displays of patriotism is that once they are in place it is hard to remove them because the optics are so bad. Even if the reason is "why do we need this at a sporting event" the move will come across as "we don't like the United States".
It reminds me of a story someone told me about counseling one of their clients not to buy an old building that had some mediocre street art mural depicting Americana that included Martin Luther King's face. He told his client, you will never be able to change that building, because any construction or re-painting would potentially 'desecrate' a sacred civil rights image and they will run you out of town. Find another cheap property that only has graffiti.

Incorrect. But you’re arguing to argue
It’s played before the actual scheduled tip time, kickoff, or puck drop. But argue to argue
Also in every itinerary for every above HS sport there are times marked off for it, so it does not delay anything.

I love that you laugh while that was the most common response 2 years ago.
Now when it actually happened, IT'S AN OUTRAGE!!!!
MSB has never been known to be a logical place.

I feel proud and patriotic every time I sing it. I do get not everyone needs to feel that way though.

As a high school ref, that's not true.

I went on Pels Talk to see their takes on this, and the bottom thread on the first page was from Monday at 2:30pm.
That board is dying and so is the NBA.

Me - "What good reason is there to watch the NBA?"

To celebrate the freedom and independence we enjoy as an American that allows us to assemble to watch a truthfully meaningless game for pure entertainment purposes and allows athletically gifted people a platform to make huge amounts of money and allows fat talentless people with good connections (Gundy) to fail over and over again as a coach but still make tons of money.

I took that to mean in every HS sport mentioned above.
The start times you mentioned above could be moved up if they removed the NA.

But most countries let you do that. It's not a uniquely American thing.

The only reason we’re seeing this push is bc it’s cool to shite on the USA. It’s petty really
So I don’t think you are wrong on this. Obviously there is a correlation between other social/political events today and this topic.
But that doesn’t mean that the idea is invalid because of the motive behind it.
This is kinda just a side effect of people re-evaluating lots of things. And regardless of what the motive is, even if it a sinister one, doesn’t mean the idea is a bad one.
Like you don’t have to have an all or nothing, this or that type of ideology you know. You can disagree with original actions and motive but still see this as something logical and maybe not a bad, or just neutral idea.
Now of course you can disagree with removing the anthem as well, and that’s fine. But I just think it is bad rational to do it solely because of the motive without evaluating the concept itself first. And I also think it’s unfair to group people who either support this concept into the same bin as those with the motive.

I knew the Pels had a commie as a head coach, but yeah, frick this guy.
SVG is utterly transparent on this. An old man who wants a coaching job has to say shite like this to be in touch with young players.
Mark him down and any Pels player who agrees with him publicly as ineligible to play for Team USA in the future.

I used to watch pretty much every Pels game start to finish. I'll catch a 4th quarter here and there now. I'm not boycotting or anything. I've just lost interest even with Zion.

Exactly, if people aren't watching pre-game anyways(I never do). It shouldn't make too much of a difference whether or not the anthem is being played.
