I’m just trying to figure out your ever-changing rules.

First it was sports, then it was team sports, then it was determined by popularity?

Tennis doesn’t play the national anthem before matches, no.

I'm a patriotic American and I say stop playing the anthem during NBA games. Also stop calling it the National Basketball Association, name it something else.

Most tennis events will play the anthem at the start of the day

And then for the start of night session they will play the anthem again

What ever changing rules do I have?
They play it before basketball games do they not?
This is just about NBA games, I never brought up other sports

You brought up other sports, and then provided some funny story about singing it before a meeting

So it wasn't just because the tradition didn't make sense so let's do away with it.
That sounds like exactly what it was.

“If you think the anthem needs to be played before sporting events, then play it before every movie, concert, church service and the start of every work day at every business. What good reason is there to play the anthem before a game?”

Agree.I could understand maybe before the SuperBowl or opening day in Baseball( special occasions like games after 9/11 ) , but otherwise.......

Seems to trivialize the Anthem when its played randomly at meaningless games when most fans aren't paying attention.

In a nutshell, you don’t like people disagreeing with you. Got it.

If that’s how you interpreted that statement, in the context of this thread, it’s pretty ironic.

You would consider me a liberal and even I think this is ridiculous.

Seeing someone crush every note of the national anthem before a big game gets the juices flowing for me.

He’s not wrong, it should be reserved for international competition.

I also understand this take. And my enjoyment of the anthem, as stated above, isn’t nationalistic. It’s more just tradition and enjoyment.

Do they? I’ve been to the US Open a handful of times and I don’t recall the national anthem ever playing before a match.

Ok, so we’re not worried about golf or tennis, unless they’re playing doubles. If they’re playing doubles, do they sing the anthem? Or are they not popular enough for the anthem?

You’re trying to be so edge and cool. It’s not working.

I’ll play along. What rules are being made up?

I can handle disagreement. If someone wants to kneel, let them. I think it’s pointless and silly, but I won’t stop anybody from doing it.

I actually agree to an extent. Kind of no reason. If an organization chooses to, then let them. I do however, have an issue with why it IS not being played by Cuban.

For some things, we’re fine if you don’t sing the anthem, but for others we’re not.

Solo sports? That’s ok. No need.

Team sports? You had better sing that anthem!

Unpopular sports? That’s ok. No need.

Popular sports? You had better sing that anthem!

Why is it just sports? Why not sing the anthem at every reasonably large gathering?
