That’s fine. I hope he does opt out. That means he had a monster year. His replacement should be more than ready to go by then

Even though it's essentially a 1 year deal, good for the Cubs. They are a good fit.

Why? A generation of us grew up with Braves on TBS and Cubs on WGN.

This. In the 80’s when I moved to Baton Rouge from a Chicago as a kid, most were Braves fans, others Cubs fan. Maybe a couple were Astros. In the internet age everything is different.

A north Louisiana redneck fan of a Dallas team decides who is a real fan.

Yeah I was a cubs fan when I was 6 because one day all of a sudden a Cubs game was on WGN at noon instead of He-man. Later I became a Braves fan because my friend in 3rd grade was a Braves fan. I still have a little bit of a soft spot for the cubs, though.

Good deal for the Cubs I think, and gives Belli the chance to show last year was for real and go on the market again with a better case. I did not want a long term commitment in years, that was my concern, but Boras lost his leverage on this one - asked for a ridiculous number in both years and salary and no one came close to biting.

Finally. I really am surprised that this is the compromise that they came to. Both sides are basically kicking the can down the road til next year.

This to me guarantees that this will be the last year Bellinger is a Cub. Id have liked to see a 4 year/120 a year deal with opt outs after years 2 and 3. That way he'd be a Cub for at least 2 more years.

If he has another year like last year, and his batted ball metrics improve some, some team will give him something better than 2 years at 50 mil.

At least by then we should know what we have with PCA and Busch both.

I could have lived with this but I'm fine with the deal as is. I was worried Boras was holding out for 6 years are more and I would not have been a fan of that at all.

I think the reason it ended up this way is because the batted ball metrics last year which the geeks tell me show he was unusually fortunate in batted balls last year , coupled with the 3 years he had previous to that made teams very reluctant to invest long term in Belli and it showed in how this played out.

However, after living through a couple of years of the same geeks tell me how great Bote's hard hit rate and batted ball rate was for two years with the same results...which was poor actual numbers...I take the batted ball numbers with a grain of salt.

We should, and maybe a couple of the other highly touted prospects as well.

They should make a run at one of the last remaining pitchers with a similar type of offer, few years, can leave after 1 or 2.

Cubs are making a lot of money off their ball park village type deal around Wrigley and can play the board game and end up with a deal like this.
