I mean Cam was the main reason we got beat. Had Auburn not paid him, I doubt it would have been a similar result.
But yeah, we lost. I don't see anything being done to change that result. I don't plan in dwelling on that thought much.

the ramifications of all this could be such a mess I could see the NCAA waiting until after the season to do anything about it

the ramifications seem like they'd be a lot bigger if they waited

if they can get a quick, decisive ruling then there's not as much pointless vacation, possibly vacating national champions? I think the NCAA would do everything in their power to prevent that from happening.

i think with it being brought out now, they would investigate immediately.

and maybe suggest that Auburn hold out Newton until it is clear up, or the penalties will be stiffer if proven to be true. Not sure if they can do that though, because what if he is proven innocent in the long run, and Auburn losses a shot in the title game by sitting him?

Pick your poison:

Do this in the middle of the season, a la Florida in 1984, and force a postseason ban because they're so clearly going to be guilty

OR

Let Auburn win out this year, let Newton go to the pros, and then see a repeat of the USC / Bush situation where both sides stonewall despite witnesses and evidence against them.

Frankly, given what happened with Dez Bryant last year, being tossed for the year for lying to the NCAA, I'd pull Cam's arse now and force him to answer questions under penalty of his eligibility.

Best thing for LSU would be that this becomes such a distraction that Auburn loses its next two.

I am sorry, but Newton and his teammates have to be starting to get affected by this. Imagine if Cam didn't realize that he had said that, and is now realizing he did.

Man, the kid's mind would likely be totally effed up.

Amid all of this I can't help but wonder how good Mississippi State could have been with Cam. They're 7-2 with Chris Relf and Tyler Russell at QB. They lost to Auburn by just three points.

The thing that doesnt add up to me in all of this is why the SEC knew about it in January and nothing happened with it.

its definitely interesting

you got SEC and BCS titles on the line, along with the heisman trophy...with the bush/USC scandal, you know the last thing the NCAA wants to do is strip anyone of anything

but

do you just shut it all down with a month left in the season? if they have 100% definite proof, maybe, otherwise, i dont know...

You see, if this keeps Cam Newton out of games for an extended period of time then that's good for LSU. I just think LSU should be above wanting the Auburn game forfeited.

The spin is strong with this Aubie

quote:

it's a ploy between MSU and UF to bring Cam Newton down for spurning their universities. Urban and Mullen saving face for letting Newton get away.

If for some reason this proves to be true, Auburn, Newton, and whoever deserve what they get....right now though --- this is an absolute smear campaign. Seems that the smoke is coming out of the 'villes of Starks and Gaines

It seems like Plan A didnt work so the initiated Plan B and that one didnt sink the ship so lets throw Plan C in the mix to see what that does. It's like me telling you I saw your wife out with another man while you were out of town but didnt take any pictures of it. I dated your wife in high school and she broke my heart. As of right now, to me, it seems like there are a lot of broken hearts in the SEC.

He's working overtime in this thread.

first off, I think LSU should be considered 11-1 going into the SECCG, if they make it that far.

However, where do you draw the line? How much can a school cheat before their opponents are justified in calling for forfeiture?

It does seem like a smear campaign right now but where there's smoke there's always fire. I think he took money and I think proof will eventually come out.

Maybe if Auburn was paying Vince Young to suit up under a fake name then a forfeiture would be in order.
