4th and about 40. Team lines up for like a 70yd FG. Everybody was like WTF!? Snapped to place holder. Kicker kicked it like a normal FG but angled it so it would go out if bounds around the 10yd line or so. Other team gets it back at their 10yd line. Not where the ball was snapped like a normal missed FG. Congrats on the coaching staff for utilizing a little known rule and something you may only see once in a lifetime.

We did this back when I was in school in 05 or 06 but it was like a 55 yard fg and our kicker could barely make 25 yarders

So in HS on field goals you get the ball where it goes out of bounds (if it does), or where you kicked the ball from if it doesn't?

In high school it's a scrimmage kick like a punt. If it goes into the end zone it would be a touchback.

Still a helluva kick.

My son wanted a touchback in his eighth grade game, but the returner knocked it down. It still went by him, but he scooped it up and ran out at the 15..

Next game he said, out of the end zone.

ETA: why not just punt it?

I guess the reason this is the rule is because they think the officials are too dumb to know the difference between punts and field goals?

He got a generous roll to go out of bounds. Landed in bounds but rolled down field and out

I just uploaded the kickoff I posted about. Bonus ruthless block on one of our players. That’s a ‘I’m kicking out of the end zone trajectory’ only he kicked at that kid by mistake.

One of his punts as well, can’t really tell where it ends up, but it’s down there.

Any kick in Hs is a touch back even if it is it muffed by receiving team. A kick remains a kick until it is possessed

Seriously. Ts an interesting scenario for sure but if your goal is to kick it oob to limit a return why not just make it easier on yourself and punt?

Depends. If a FG is short but becomes dead in the EZ you start on the 20. Once it crosses the plane it's dead. But if it goes OOB before that you get it at that spot.

Yep. As a deep(SJ) we always say a "kick is a kick, is a kick, is a kick."....

Maybe his punter sucked? This isn't the NFL where you can just go find one on the street somewhere

I'm thinking, without knowing anything about their punter (who may have been the same person who kicked it), that perhaps he has a shanking problem, and it was easier for him, or whoever the kicker is, to placekick the ball further.

We did that back in 1992. Our punter got hurt and we used our fg kick as the punt instead. We had a good kicker who could angle it towards the sideline. But if he didn’t hit it good it was tough. Our fg team was a bunch of us linemen so covering kicks was not our specialty. Our kicker made USA Today for an attempted 93 yard field goal. But in reality it acted just like a punt
