Well this is stupid

To me and I've had this argument before but I would take Duncan or Shaq over Kobe everyday of the week.
Kobe is an explosive scorer but he can't win titles without Shaq, or Pau and a semi productive Bynum as well as Phil Jackson. When Shaq left the Lakers limped along while Kobe scored 80 and they got trounced in the playoffs.
Duncan and Shaq helped anchor different teams/squads to championships because they were effective on both sides of the floor and allowed team mates to be better. To me it's
1a Duncan
1b Shaq
2 possibly Kobe

Shaq at his best is better than timmay
Duncan is far more consistent and durable than Shaq and that is what Simmons is talking about when he says Duncan is a better overall player
Duncan's career stats are a straight line on a graph

It's funny because in his book he has this huge part at the beginning talking about how people are always looking for someone to be better than an older player because we stop seeing that older player on the court, so forth and so on, and how that is wrong to do to the older players.
Well, pot meet kettle. No one dominated down low like Shaq did, whether he be on the Magic, Lakers or Heat (things started going south after that). Don't get me wrong, Duncan is a great player, but he is not better than Shaq

Said he was best player of his generation. Took him over Kobe as well.
he might be right. If Duncan wins a Finals MVP at 37 and his fifth ring, you have to put him ahead of shaq.

So, that's not an important part of the game. OK.
It shows that Duncan is a more complete player.

More complete and far less dominant.

We'll just ignore the fact that Shaq had 58.2% FG percentage while Duncan has shot 50.7%. Shaq also scored 3.5 Pt/Gm

Shaq had, imo, the most lethal drop step ever in the NBA. Literally unstoppable.
Duncan is great in his own right, but he's no Shaq.

Would definitely take both over Kobe. Prime Shaq over Duncan. Duncan is Kareem-lite when it comes to longevity -- great coaching and supporting casts help.

Why, exactly?

2000-2001 Shaq was an unstoppable force. I'm not sure anyone has been as dominant. That being said, Duncan won the title in 03 by himself basically. Robinson was a shell. Parker was trade bait. Manu wasn't really Manu. No player has won more with less around him than Tim Duncan
Kobe missed the playoffs in his prime. No way in hell that happens to Shaq on Duncan
For a career, I'll take Duncan. For a season, I'll take 2000 Shaq. Kobe is just 3rd. Period

I never said its not important
Just that that one stat doesnt make Duncan better
In that case Steve Nash > Micheal Jordan

That depends on how Kobe's prime is defined, because it can be argued his prime was right in the middle of the Lakers three peat.

Kobe had a long prime. Benefit of being a premiter player. But Shaq was the best player on 3 championship teams. Duncan was the best on 4. Kobe was the best on 2....but kinda shite the bed in the Finals as Gasol outplayed him

Shaq had playoff seasons where he could give you 40 points and 20 rebounds when he FELT like it. Now Duncan over an entire career is the better player. But, prime vs prime he isn't even in the convo when it comes to Shaq.

Disagree. Pippen was LeBron defensively. He locked wings down. Offense also ran through him a lot. Jordan was asked who the 2nd best player on the dream team was and said "Scottie pippen"

Prime Shaq > Prime Duncan.
