Should the National League adopt the designated hitter?

I think so. Pitchers are so bad at batting today because the DH is used in high school, college and all American League minor league affiliates. The DH is even used by National League Rookie League and Single A affiliates. (Which I didn’t realize until I looked at a wiki article about 30 seconds ago.)

Pitchers were bad at hitting decades ago, but nothing like today. They basically aren’t practicing hitting once they hit age 14. Players usually reach the big leagues in the 22-25 range, so it’s been about a decade at that point.

Aaron Nola had a nice RBI last night against Cole Hamels.

I think so. When a pitcher does hit really well, it’s a lot of fun. Plus the strategic side of it can be interesting. But most pitchers are just such automatic outs, it’s largely a drag. And no one wants to see a stud pitcher get hurt batting or running the bases, or get pulled after 80 pitches when he is dealing. Not to mention that it’s kind of silly that the two leagues have different rules.

I think they should, and it has nothing to do with my thoughts on pitchers hitting or not.

I'm tired of Snitker taking out pitchers after 6 innings and 80 pitches simply to use a pinch hitter. If we had the DH, I think starting pitchers would go a little longer (I don't have the data to back up whether AL starters tend to go deeper into games, this is just a theory or observation) and lessen the need to use a bunch of bullpen arms that suck.

To be honest, I like the way it is now but I would hate to be a fan of a National League team. It must be frustrating as hell to watch your lineup string together a few hits against a pitcher like Scherzer only to have a rally killed because it's the pitcher's turn at the plate.

Wrong. I'm pro-replay and anti-DH.

Doesn't really matter what I believe. But within 2-3 years, the NL will have a DH. They started talking about having it passed this last offseason.

Yes. Pitchers hitting is like having the quarterback still kick field goals.

Yes. Should've been done a long time ago.

I actually like that. Its neat to me what managers do in interleague at the other leagues park. Esp if they have a DH who can rake but is a defensive liability

Yes because they’re the only league in world that doesn’t use it

I'm squarely on the fence on this one. If they do adopt it - I'd like them to use the NCAA rule for dealing with two-way players vs. what they currently do with Ohtani.

Pro No-DH: Maintain a little piece of history, the strategy (when to pull your pitcher for a PH, double switches, utility players), a preference for players that are at least adequate in the field

Pro DH: no black hole in the 9 spot, uniformity between the two leagues, all other levels have adopted it.
