Should “specialists” get into major HOFs?

And by specialists, I mean guys that were one of the absolute best at a specific thing within their sport.
Example - Kyle Korver, one of the most prolific shooters ever. 4th all time in 3s made and 3rd all time in 3pt FG %.
This extends to all sports though, Devin Hester is arguably the greatest return man of all time, but he didn’t do much else on the field.

Korver, no. Hester, yes.
At least with Hester, you can put the kickoff/punt returner positions on him. If you're the best (or one of) at your position, I think you should get in

I feel like these are two very different discussions

Basketball is about scoring points. I have no problem with Korver getting in

Hester will get in. The betting odds favor it as well.

Specialist is a term in football for those who kickoff, place kick, punt, and snappers of the ball to those who kick.
I’m sure there are kickers and punters in there, doubt there are any kickoff guys or snappers.

What kind of impact did Korver have on the game?
Hester’s impact was huge and was so for a long time.
Mariano Rivera too
Same with Ray Guy
But a 3 point shooter that averaged what, less than 12 points a game played?

Edgar Martinez was the 1st person to come to mind when I opened the thread.

So if it's about scoring, does Ben Wallace get in? He kept teams from scoring. And nothing else.

Well he just got inducted this year so

Then I guess I made my point.
Seriously, I didn't know he got in.

Bruce Bowen is an example of a defensive specialist in bball that’s not in, but maybe should be.

They let coaches into the HOF and they’re only “specialists” right? Of course specialists deserve to get in if they perform well enough.

Basketball hall of fame pretty much let’s anyone in there so the “hall of fame” discussions for the NBA don’t go that deep like they do for football

Coaches get inducted as coaches so that doesn’t really make sense.
HOFs also “induct” certain items like jerseys or gloves for big moments, that doesn’t mean that’s the bar for the hall across the board

The NFL has conceded kickers at this point.
It's hard for a punter who isn't Ray Guy to get in. The next one might be a while (Lechler, and he won't get in early)
Returners? I wouldn't have a problem with Rick Upchurch or Billy "White Shoes" Johnson getting in. Brian Mitchell should definitely be in too.
Long Snappers? Pass.

I don't think any should get in. Deon Sanders was the greatest returner I ever saw, Darrel Green was awesome as well. But they couldn't devote to it full time..

An elite DH is more than a specialist. Martinez also played like a third of his career at 3B. The equivalent in baseball is definitely a reliever and the very elite guys have gotten in
