I need everyone to know that SDV said the Lakers have no stars or banners in the last 20 years while they’re in possession of 25% of the nba championships during that time and have had numerous stars come and go.

Someone check on this kid.

it was literally like 6 years ago that we had kobe and dwight and gasol and nash. it hasnt been that long and most of that was simply due to the team tanking and not one single player wanted to be the first player to take the jump onto the team. now both lebron and AD have. its not nearly the same situation as what has happened these last 5 summers. the organization has almost 70 years of finding a way to pair stars with one another, we also have a history of taking care of our stars to a fault. we just simply need to give people a reason to come and we didnt have that these last five summers. now we do

which is the correct take to have. i think both teams are going to be fine

In 3-5 years other players will be free agents. That’s who the lakers will focus on. Teams like the lakers should not focus on remaining good through the draft.
Had they not given up essentially all their picks, they could have used those picks in trades to add role players.

If they add that 3rd max player, I'm really not sure how they will build their roster going forward. If that 3rd max is Kawhi, you make it happen. If it's Kemba, meh.

I'd prefer to go with solid role players as opposed to a Kemba or Butler.

You know how I feel about both Lebron and AD at this point in there careers, so we will just agree to disagree. I think you guys have at best a 1-2 year window with both.

After that Lebron will be completely washed, if not earlier...and AD is AD. He is a 2nd or 3rd option on a good team, needs a complete alpha dog to make him worth anything on a good team.

Once Lebron has faded if you can get yourself a Russ Westbrook type to pair with AD you'll be in really great shape IMO. That's the type of player AD needs to be paired with.

in theory, we would build the team year to year using the exceptions. but yea, we should stay away from any max contract if its not kawhi or kyrie

I think you can disagree on Lebron and that's fine, you have more information on him than I do.

If you're disagreeing on AD I'm not sure how you can. You've barely ever watched him play presumably. I try to be as objective as I can with him and I can go find posts on Pels talk where I say similar things before his trade demand.

He's an immense talent. He can score in a variety of ways. His help defense is great (one on one D is a disappointment in the NBA to be honest). He's completely unbelievable at times. But he is extremely passive, extremely soft, and mentally weak at times. He absolutely needs someone to get him the ball to effect games.

You're going to find out. ANY team is better for having him. I am not saying otherwise. He just needs someone better than him or on his level that is a "leader" to pair with for him to be effective.

And I think you guys can do that in the future. Lebron is that guy for the next year or two and then the Lakers will need to find that next guy. Which they certainly can because they are the Lakers.

This is an organization that has been by many accounts in disarray, missed a major detail in a negotiation that they have been working for months, and has, just very recently, had issues getting major FA to even talk with them. Even ones that they’ve been rumored to have been connected to for years (PG). This is an organization that has bungled draft picks, given away assets for nothing, and made head scratching FA signings because they valued “toughness over shooting.” This is an organization that has had the most losses in the NBA since Jeanie and the current leadership took over 6 years ago, and the only major FO move they’ve made is to promote from within.

Man, idk how the Lakers and this trade are going to turn out, but I think worrying about the future is exactly what Lakers fans should be doing.
