ESPN

quote:

Shaquille O'Neal urged the New Orleans Saints last Thursday not to let the media divide them in the wake of Drew Brees' national anthem comments, a source confirmed to ESPN.

"They're going to try to divide you, just like they divided us with the Lakers! Me and Kobe [Bryant], we had a great thing going, but the media divided our team," O'Neal said in the message during a virtual team meeting. "We could have won five more championships! Stay strong. Don't let the media divide you! Don't let social media divide you!"

Honestly a great message. Wish he could have delivered it before one of the defensive leaders told the QB to shut the frick up and post it to the public......Could have saved me from having to watch a game this year in the freezing cold Ralph

it fits on both boards... it's Saints related... has Shaq talking about his time with Lakers which makes it eligible for the MSB in my mind

lol at Shaq still trying to pretend the Lakers locker room falling apart wasn't his mostly fault for acting like a big fat baby.

I agree. Its a great thread

And the message from Shaq should be a message even more broad. Dont listen to social media or the media period

It is an absolute small fraction of society. People think its the majority or common thought, but it isnt at all. I wish Brees could have understood this

He should have apologized directly to the team. And told them his message. It would have fixed his locker room situation and saved his public image

Jeff Pearlman has a book coming out on those Lakers teams in September. Should be a good read

He constantly attacked Kobe publicly. And they both were taking shots at one another just last year. Blames media.

How many people would've believed in the 90's that Shaq and Charles Barkley would end up being the 2 most logical voices in the sports world?

Are yall thick in the head?

He isnt saying the divide was fake, he is saying they let the media divide them, and he is right....I think Kobe and Shaqs beef centered around the idea of "whose team was it/ who is alpha"

The let that media driven narrative divide them. His message is now block that out, its all bullshite, and dont let that ruin them like it ruined him and kobes relationship/ the lakers

that was shaqs beef with kobe, and penny for that matter, but kobes beef with shaq was largely built on after winning in 2000, shaq just stopped caring (in kobes mind) and would always come back from the offseason ridiculously out of shape and started playing in fewer and fewer regular season games and it bugged the ever living hell out of him

I despise the media but how is it their fault that idiot Saints players are coming out crying about what Brees said?

I hear you, but you must not watch Sports talk media..

Some were going as far as to say Brees should retire.

It was all so ridiculous.

The fanbase is doing the same thing. Go read the Saints board, they're ready to boycott the team over Drew Brees apologizing.

Agree that Twitter is toxic, and wants you to think that everybody else thinks the way they do which is not true.

frick the saints. The damage is done. Brees has done more than anyone could ever hope for for the city of New Orleans and the people, yet he gets attacked on social media for stating his opinion.

To make matters worse he apologizes then has his wife apologize too. I sure hope people stand their ground and don’t tune in. Hit them where it hurts, their wallets.
