The real question here is, did he need any more when what he could do was totally unstoppable?

great stats but lets be honest. Shaq was playing against air during that series. The pacers had no one at center

Yeah he'd still be an elite rim protector and he moves great for his size but teams would still force him to guard near the 3 point line, especially in the playoffs. And yes he would absolutely own the paint against any stretch 5 but most everyone knows that the EV of a good 3 pointer is far more than a post up, even if it's Shaq. No way would teams let him sit in the paint on defense though

For sure, I still would let a stretch 5 fire threes all day too. Shaq would feast on the other end.

btw your statement reminded me of my favorite NBA photo of all time

Well, his only shot was a dunk, he was worthless on the offensive side if they every called charging, which they don't.

Wilt led league in assists one season

Yeah, he also did that because it was shortly after assists became an official statistic and he made it his goal to lead the league. He would literally pass up wide open dunks because he wanted to get assists. It's widely known how obsessive he was with stats. He also wanted to accomplish never fouling out of a game, which he successfully did - because he basically stopped playing defense once he got to 5 fouls, in order to achieve that career goal.

Wilt was way better than shaq and every bit as strong inside. In better shape too.

All that being said above, Wilt was still phenomenal. But he played in an era that wasn't equipped for him at all. He was playing against guys with other full time jobs, and Russell was the only one able to rival his size and athleticism - not to hold that against him, as size and athleticism are a big part of how good of a basketball player you are - but at least Shaq was being guarded by guys somewhat equipped to face him.

It's an interesting thought. My thought is they build teams like this now because there isn't a Shaq. Peak Shaq would foul out half a team that only had stretch forwards to play the 5. When Shaq was in his prime, you had to have about three guys worth of fouls to be effective against him. You couldn't afford a bunch of strech players. You needed Vlade, Clark, and Pollard to deal with him.

If you take this perspective, Wilt was vastly over rated, as besides Bill Russel, who was only 6'10", there were, literally, no other big men in the league. Point being, he had no competition once he got the ball down low. Shaq's cred was built on playing against, and dominating, numerous big men. He's in the HOF & was voted one of the Top 50 of all time players: by his peers. Good Lord.

how many stretch 5s are there that shot well enough from 3 33%+ and can guard him remotely well?

I dont think Draymond could guard him.

Draymond couldn't guard him. Towns might be able to hang with him, but he would get in foul trouble and he's more of a tradtional 5. Kevin Love? I have a ton of respect for Anthony Davis, but Shaq would eat him alive.

I'll respond to this the same way I responded to Durant's "he didn't have no skills" remark...

Shaq wasn't just big, he was agile, quick feet. He had great speed considering his size.
