What news to wake up to!

This has to be the first direct swap of all-pros since Mitch Richmond for Chris Webber in the 90s?

I understand this is a business and all that, but it seems pretty shitty to just trade your best player like this, competely out of nowhere. It doesn't reflect well on the organization.

The Mavs could’ve got the biggest haul in NBA history yet this is the way they went about it?

They apparently want to win now.

Sure, if they wanted to blow it up they could have gotten a much larger haul form someone (Houston? NO? Utah?)

Non existent D didn’t stop the mavs from going to the finals

One outlier/magical playoff run doesn't create a trend.

But they only have ONE ball. So I don’t think there is a winner in this trade.

It’s kind of like trading Lamar Jackson for Matthew Stafford and the GM of the ravens saying ‘ball control wins championships’.

So they trade a 25 year old who’s been 1st team all NBA the last 5 years and carried them to the finals last season in a back room deal without fielding offers from the league? And kept him in the same conference?? At least call a team in the Eastern conference

They were a rd 1 exit before kawhi got hurt in the last week of the reg season then got two teams with almost no playoff experience. Had no chance at all to beat BOS.

"The league" could have given them more return, but not immediate return.

I literally went through like the top 20 guys a page or 2 back. Unless they were getting a Durant/Curry back, AD is easily the best guy they would have gotten back (and I don't think Curry is better than AD now, and Durant probably isn't, either).

quote:

Wemby: no
Jokic: no
Giannis: no
SGA: no
Tatum: no

The only 2 guys left before AD are Durant/Curry.

Brunson: You'd think yes, but he's a NY guy and Luka would not work on their roster construction

Anthony Edwards: Likely no due to age

Paulo? Probably no

Dmitch, KAT, Jaylen Brown, Ja, Booker: yes, but we're in the "Would DAL say yes?" area

I don't know if Jalen Brunson is better than AD

Yeah people are overrated a miracle playoff run

I got into it last year with pellies fans doing the same, overrating Trae Young for that one run

The GM wanted AD so no need to shop around.

I somewhat applaud Dallas, instead of bending to their superstars will, they shipped him out. Avoided having to pay the highest NBA salary in history to a player that won't commit to the teams standards.

I am not saying the return for Luka is optimal.

Exactly

It's not optimal but not the worst trade ever that the prisoner of the moment reactions demand.

Max value would mean rebuilding

If you don't want to rebuild, and accept that inefficiency, this isn't bad at all.

The irony is LAL rebuilding now (while getting the better player somehow)

What's not being discussed enough is the role of the 2nd apron in the decision making. I can see this as the first superstar trade in the 2nd apron era, causing a shift of value from the AD trade precedent.
