To each his own, but I don't get that decision at all.

Some people are simply happy where they are. I'm sure Chris Peterson and Gary Patterson could get a big time gig if they wanted it, but they'd rather stay where they are.

Shaka has really made his mark on VCU, and I'm sure his family is happy there. Also the expectations aren't near what they'd be at UCLA where they might can him in 5 years if they struggle.

maybe he wants to be a legend there.

but I would get tired of being at the same place after awhile

Only up to 1.5 from 1.2 mil. I guess being able to sign a contract that will pay you well for the rest of your career is good enough. Wonder what UCLA's offer was?

Think Shaka at VCU could get them in the ACC or Big East?

Coaches are prioritizing quality of life over what others determine is the ultimate achievement in a coach's career -- winning at a blue blood program. It may be Smart's ambition to build VCU into a power as opposed to winning at a historical power. Plus, the odds are against him at UCLA unless he wins a ridiculous amount of games -- Howland was canned and he reached the Final Four three times in 10 years, which isn't exactly bad.

frick UCLA.

Cowherd was talking about Few and guessing a 1.5 mil salary at Gonzaga. For him to have the SAME take-home pay at UCLA after taxes, and including a higher COL, he would need to make 2.5 mil at a minimum.

I see what you're saying. But for me, I would rather be living in Los Angeles than Richmond. As well as having all the perks of coaching a BIG-time team. But good for him, glad he is happy.

I can't wait for Coach K and Roy Williams to retire and he will end up at one of those schools and Brad Stevens will end up at the other

I'm actually not all that surprised. But still great news none the less. Supposedly he got extra money for assistants and other money being spent on the program. Sounds like he really does want to build VCU into a bigger program
