Careers taken in their totality, Duncan had a better run

Hakeem had more points, steals and blocks. He also averaged more rebounds per game

I usually value peak over longevity so I lean Hakeem. Which isn't a diss on Duncan. They both might be tpp ten of all time players.

Duncan 10yr peak produced 130 Win Shares

Hakeems 10 year peak produced 113 Win Shares

Hakeem’s peak was not better than Duncan’s peak.

Assuming statistics are the best arbiter. What about the peak five years for each?

Right, because MJ has proven his superlative ability to evaluate talent and build teams in ~20 years on the job. Let’s trust his opinion.

I’ll take Hakeem. He bested Shaq and Ewing head to head in the finals. He averaged 27 points the two title seasons to go along with the defense and was probably the best player in the league those two years.

The second best player on his first title team was Otis Thorpe? Maxwell? You could argue the 93-94 rockets had the worst second best player or any title team.

Duncan always had Robison or Parker/Ginobli.

It’s close and think both of these guys are among the must under appreciated players of all time. But I’ll take the peak offensive output that Hakeem could give you.

Big difference when evaluating a guy you played against during each of your primes vs a guy 20 years younger than you

Duncan

Because if I'm drafting a player, I want him.

If I'm sitting on a couch eating Cheetos...watching the NBA...

I take Hakeem.

I don’t know who was better but I always think it’s crazy how Duncan never gets the title tiebreaker almost every other athlete gets.

If you thought that was brutal, you should have seen what he did to David Robinson after Robinson won the MVP.

Seems like you have a fair argument

I admit part of the reason I'm biased towards Hakeem over Duncan is bullshite. That reason being that Hakeem just looked like a world class athlete

Hakeem was a better player. Duncan was surrounded by quality players for a much much longer time period.

I would take Hakeem over Duncan all day and all night.

I don’t know how that stat is tabulated but Duncan had a lot more talent around him than Olajuwon. Parker and Ginobli are both better than anyone Hakeem played with outside of maybe Drexler and he didn’t get Clyde until the end. He also had Pop one of the what top 5 top 3 maybe coaches of all time his entire career vs Bill Fitch Don Chaney and Rudy T

Hakeem’s peak was not better than Duncan’s peak.

The average nba career is only 4.5 years, and this dumb mf'er is thinking peaks last 220% of that
