Eugene Melnyk has literally ruined hockey for me

I have been a Sens fan for my entire life, and I will never cheer for another team, but at this point I'm pretty much done with hockey.
Is there any precedent for a team without cap issues to trade their four best players in an 8 month span? I dont think so. All of our star players in the past 5+ years have refused to commit their future to Ottawa because they have either been low-balled and alienated by the ownership over contract negotiations or have (rightfully) believed that the team is not interested in being competitive.
quote:
The fact that we have shown a consistent ability to develop players (Alfie, Karlsson, Stone, Hoffman, etc) is overshadowed by the fact that we have an owner who is unwilling to make that final push. Not to mention that backroom staff and all the other regular people who work for the organization have been cut to the bone. Melnyk has driven this organization into the ground and there is no end in sight.
We have been "rebuilding" for basically as long as I remember, and every time we reach a point where we have a talented core of players Melnyk and the rest of the organization blow things up and start again. Karlsson, Stone, and everyone else led us on a surprise run at the Cup two years ago. Then when their contracts were up they all got dealt, forcing all of us to kick our dreams another 5 years down the road. Again.

I don't know what you're quoting, but you ain't wrong. Melnyk has ruined hockey in Ottawa. Just a total lack of good faith.

The jackets seem like a whole new team...what am I watching going forward? Hope this works out for them...

I always thought of what would happen if someone didn't want to get subbed out in any sport. At least I got to see it there

Blues get Del Zotto. He any good?

In defense (kind of in a bit of a back handed way) of Nill, unless he was landing McDavid or Crosby there was no trade he could make that was going to make that team a legitimate contender for anything other a one and done playoff appearance anyway.

They only traded away one semi-regular.
Big Metro game tomorrow, Pens @ tCBJ

I’m looking forward to Predators/Blues tomorrow. Blues pull within 4 points with a regulation win.

Looks like the Preds picked up Simmonds.

11 games tonight, including some big ones
6pm
Sharks @ bruins
Flames @ Islanders
Pens @ tCBJ
7pm
Preds @ Blues
9pm
Stars @ Knights
with only 20 games left, every regulation division loss to another playoff contender is a 4 point swing you can ill afford

Montreal is at Detroit. Not between two playoff teams, but is important to the eastern wild cards.

Jackets are going all in. I'm not really sure this was their best option, but I liked them committing to a course. They are going to get absolutely gutted by free agency as Bob, Panarin, and the new acquisition Duchene are all UFA's. They are likely going to be unable to re-sign them and will get nothing back. They have to win this year.
So, unwilling to trade Panarin for pennies on the dollar, they instead tried to load up on assets for one last run. It better work, because in the draft this year, CBJ only has a 3rd and a 7th round pick. They've also traded their 2020 2nd and 3rd rounders, and if they re-sign Duchene, they lose the 1st rounder as well.
Hey, I admire the guts.

There is an above average chance they sign Duchene long term.
