You don't think the team paying millions to a person with a history of substance abuse like him would like to make sure he is staying sober?

Josh Gordan is not a regular NFL player and is not going to get treated like one

Gordon wouldn’t have lasted this long in Seattle if the Nfl was following their protocol like they say they are.

I'm not even sure what this means

At this point sure, I’ll possibly agree with him. But it wasn’t like that in the beginning.

He’s been in the substance abuse program since he got into the league do to his issues in college

I also disagree the NFL does this as randomly as they like to say they do or more players would get popped that’s my point. Gordon wouldn’t have lasted this long in Seattle if the Nfl was following their protocol like they say they are.

If you aren’t in the program then it’s really easy to get around tests and stay out of trouble.

Once you end up in that program you really do have to stay clean. They are constantly testing you, and give you zero room for error. One of his suspensions, as someone previously mentioned, was from having a glass of champagne on a team flight back home. Was tested the second he got off the flight and suspended immediately.

And again Gordon is a good dude who tries really frickin hard to stay clean, but he is an addict. Addicts relapse, and they can do it after 3 days, 3 months, 3 years etc.

You realize he has done interviews explaining his alcoholism and how he would drink before games right?

So, in this thread we're saying the true enablers are the NFL for keep giving him chances? You know who the true enablers are? The ones who say it's "just a disease". Can't possibly help your dysfunction or behavior because, after all, it's just a disease. No personal responsibility involved. It's a disease.

When one is hammered for violating the substance abuse policy the prohibited substances included booze. His problem could be more than the sauce however testing positive for alcohol
got him a season long suspension in the past

Exactly. I got over my addictions because I was tired of the shame and embarrassment it brought my family. This guy has that plus millions of dollars on the line and cant get right. He obviously doesnt want to be clean but softies who have never actually dealt with addictions themselves or feel bad because someone in their own family didnt want it bad enough will make excuses for him. Addicts dont need excuses from others. They make enough themselves.

Who cares if the dude smokes weed on his own time. Weed should be legal anyway.

This. Cancer is a disease. Addiction is a habit.

Hell no. If I was given the opportunity to make millions a year, but I couldn't drink while making those millions I would have no problem doing it. And I drink 3-4 days a week. He's had all the opportunity in the world to get his shite together and still can't.

Well, that’s you. He obviously has addiction issues. You’re saying you don’t. That’s cool that you don’t, but it doesn’t mean you can’t still feel sorry for the guy.

You may be fat. He’s not. He’s probably feel sorry for your fat arse.

Feel bad for him. He’s obviously an alcoholic(drug addict) whatever you want to call it. He just physically and mentally can’t quit getting high. I hope one day he gets it together. Sucks watching someone burn their life to the ground.
