Is this where I get faux outraged about a couple of completely irrelevant comments from a couple of celebrities?

Did we live the same childhood. I swear that was me

I think I watched too many hood movies as a kid. My parents moved us out of the hood when I was 6. But at night I just swore every car was coming to do a drive-by.

I’m gonna guess that you’ve never been to a rape survivor support group meeting.

One in however many women has been assaulted. Obliging with this simple etiquette can go a longer way than your narrow point of view allows you to see.

I'm not talking about actual rape victims. I can understand someone who was attacked in a similar situation being nervous when put in that situation again. I'm talking about idiots like Jemele Hill walking around as if every man is a rapist and talking about being afraid every time they step off an elevator.

If she doesn't feel comfortable around the men at work, maybe she shouldn't be working there.

But to bitch about what has always been an accepted courtesy in society ("ladies first") is moronic. Women want respect, but bitch about simple signs of respect like letting them off the elevator first because they are afraid of being attacked. Quit trying to make every guy feel guilty for shite they didn't do!

So, just like Jemele, you can get on down the road and kick rocks!

I still fail to see what was so SJW about SVP's post.

He basically said, as a man, I try to be a gentleman and treat women courteously. In that, I have no idea the thoughts that go through women heads in such moments. That is a different perspective than mine.

It may be slightly irrational, but I'd rather err the side of cautious, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Women know that all men aren't rapists. But they also know that all women are at risk of being harassed, assaulted, etc. I believe as a woman, if they are alone somewhere they need to always have their guards up. You can't even really paint this as a generalization on any specific race. There are enough rapists to be found in every race. You can't even just say be on the lookout for shady or thuggish looking dudes. Especially when you have big time execs like Harvey Weinstein who is big time rapey.

It's not men's fault that women have to live with this type of fears. It is rapists aholes fault. But that's life I guess.

Hell, even as a man I still am very cautious if Im walking alone at night. I never have my headphones in, and I listen to all of the sounds around me. I pay attention to shadows, and reflections in the mirror if possible. If someone is walking behind me, I try to stay as aware of their position as possible.

Maybe all of this is irrational. But I dont care. I havr seen enough stories of people being ropped or jumped late night to know that I dont want to be the next.

She wouldn’t panic if she were exercising her right as an American to carry a Glock in her purse.

I bet she’s for gun control though

That's dumb. People have guns and panic all the time

Dumb thing to say.

It doesn’t matter what you’re talking about. It doesn’t matter how you feel. It doesn’t matter what your opinion is. It isn’t about you.

You’re the only one bitching. It’s just an idea that someone thought of, and it’s a good one.

You’ve put in more work being a baby about it than it would take to just push your button first.

This has nothing to do with your feelings. No one on earth is concerned with how you feel, which is obviously what’s rustling your jimmies.

Just do what the lady says. It’s a good idea that stands to put the vulnerable occasionally at ease.

Why wouldn’t I? It’s fun on my end, especially when the person I’m talking to is going out of his way to be mad at gurlz. It’s like pointing and laughing at a bed-wetter without being an actual bully.

It’s also like arguing with a wall. You might even have a better chance of changing the wall’s opinion.

Agree. We need to absorb her paranoia and trip over each other to get out of a woman's way.

yep, and i'm going to continue to be a gentleman... it's pretty simple... don't be a fricking creep and you don't have to worry about shite like this....

and bear in mind, i'm about as socially liberal as they come, and would argue on the same grounds as Hill, in some instances, but on this one, yeah she's fricking retarded and paranoid...
