@AKinkhabwala: Steelers won't know more re Ryan Shazier until the swelling goes down. But Tommy Maddox had similar injury, made full recovery once swelling was gone. That is giving these players much optimism.
Man, how do you go back to playing full speed as a LB, one of the most violent football positions, after temporarily paralysis from a collision?

You have to have ‘the want to’

Sometimes, they don't. If he's made enough money he may retire. Hard to ever play the same way again.

Compare for me the overall usefulness of people driving versus playing football.

He underwent spinal stabilization surgery. Stallion, any thoughts?

wonder if this means IR yet or what. at some point they need to be overly cautious but i guess since steelers are in super bowl run here, they may wait and see as long as possible.

The guy had spinal surgery. I don't know how on earth he could be expected to return this season, regardless of how long it lasts.

He had spinal surgery of some kind. I'm not a doctor, but I would be insanely surprised to find out he has any chance of playing this year.

Just got off phone w neurologist Dr Anthony Alessi, who consults w NFLPA, asked him what he makes of Shazier's spinal stabilization surgery. "It's not good...We're not going to see him this season. He may not play football again."

Replying to @ESPNMichele
Alessi says surgery is needed when the "bones around his spinal cord are dislocated. This is a more severe injury (than a contusion.)"
"This is a much more severe situation on our hands than we thought."

#Steelers LB Ryan Shazier’s spinal surgery will necessitate months of recovery, sources say, before he considers a return to football. His season is over. A very difficult situation.

He’s 100% done for the year and his career is probably over, which absolutely suck from a fans perspective. He’s been playing at an All Pro level and is basically the Steelers entire building block on defense.
That being said, as long as he can walk again and live a normal life, that’s all that matters.

100% this. Guy was fun as hell to watch on the football field, but I really just hope he can walk again.
