Rules on wearing jerseys

Inspired by the soccer jerseys thread...
Do you have any rules on what you buy and wear?
Such as:
Favorite player's number? No Number? A Number that no one (or a no name) wears?
Name? Your favorite player's name on jersey? Your name on jersey?
Any others?
Personally, I go for favorite player's number, but no name. IMO, the worst is favorite player's number, your name...wtf?

Soccer jerseys are different than football jerseys because they fit more like a shirt.

That, and they actually look cool.

agreed. High school is really the last acceptable years to wear jerseys imho, possibly in college as long as its not a jersey of someone who u go to school with.

I only own one jersey, which I wear on LSU gamedays, but really, I hate when people have this whole don't wear jerseys rule. If a person is an adult, they can wear whatever the hell they want. What is it to you? So long as a person isn't wearing a jersey to church or work, who gives a flying leap?
When did adults become so obsessed with still being one of the cool kids? What? If someone wears a jersey you won't let them sit at your lunch table?

I agree with this. And because most soccer jerseys have a corporate sponsors logo on them, most people don't even realize it's a jersey.

Great response, Baloo (even if I did mention preferences on numbers and names on jerseys in my post.

Don't really have any rules on jerseys.

Actually, my girlfriend knows I'm a huge hockey fan and I no longer own a Flames jersey, and I know she's been asking my friends my favorite players and such so she can get me one. So I've leaked to my friends the acceptable jerseys to get:
Either get me a classic jersey from when they won the cup in 1989 (preferably Otto or Loob... more role players who I loved instead of the stars) or if she gets me a new one either Iginla (because he is awesome), Phaneuf (because he'll be around for a long time and it will anger opposing fans), or Glencross (a risk since he's young and may end up gone, but I really him). I like the idea of getting a minor player to show my loyalty to the club, but really, you want a star so the jersey will age well.
Then again, if I had a Joe Orsulak Orioles jersey, that would be suh-weet.

If you think soccer jerseys look cool, you obviously aren't.

I'm of the opinion that there is a time for wearing a jersey, much like taking a glove to a baseball game in hopes of catching a foul ball or homerun, and that time is called childhood. Just my opinion.

Under NO circustances, should any adult wear a jersey. This includes a player's parent.
Reasons:
1) It does NOT identify you as a fan of THAT team. A purple polo with LSU on it does that. It's just a grown up wanting to "suit up" in his own little way.
2) Wearing the jersey of you "favorite" player is just downright creepy. How can you pick one anyway?
3) Parents wearing their kid's jersey is simply a cry to everyone that says "look at me, I'm _____'s daddy.
Think about it. a middle-aged doctor/lawyer from Atlanta is probably walking around with a Mike Vick 7 jersey on Sunday still. How stupid is that?

So if you wear a team's jersey with no name on the back, that's creepy? I don't think so. Just seems like a way to support your favorite team.

No.

Don't assume a parent's intentions in wearing the jersey of his or her son.
