Yeah, apparently there was a conflicting report from USA Today, but it seems as though there were no mayday calls from Halladay.

I'll bet he was water skimming, which is an incredibly stupid thing to do.

I would have figured they'd be pretty high, no?

Assuming he was doing just about full throttle, which would probably be close to 100 mph, I'm thinking that it's probably pretty violent, not to mention ending up strapped into an upside down plane that's filling with water. Probably not super easy to open that hatch when the water is holding it closed, even if he was conscious.

Lester earl might be the 2nd biggest dumbass on this board behind pj. He says shite like that all the time. And he's usually wrong.

Admired him as a Bluejay, and loved him as a Phillie. What a worker, leader, team player.

As a Phanatic, I always admired the story of him buying the whole team, staff, and even ballboy, Baume Merciers to commemerate one of his no-hitters..Class act!

That was due to a horrible location of the tank selector valve.

Yeah you're right. It was behind his head...it was a kit plane he bought from someone who installed the fuel tank selector wrong...it was designed to be between his legs.

He didn't refuel and knew the fuel was low but was only going to be up in Monterey Bay for an hour or so.

They don't know if it ran out of fuel or that turning to switch the fuel tank caused him to push on the rudder with his foot.

Yep.

I think Jim Palmer attempted a comeback after being inducted but didn't have it anymore.

I am not sure if this was posted yet, but the video him and his wife did for Icon is truly sad. I couldn't watch the whole thing...

This is a great picture showing you how they advertise this plane.

And it's a horrible idea.

yep. not meaning to speculate or disrespect Roy in anyway, obviously this is a tragedy, but i had a friend die in a military training exercise when the helicopter was flying too low and was hit by a wave and my first thoughts when i saw Roy's recent tweet about how "flying low feels like flying a fighter jet" my immediate thoughts were how dangerous that is and was my first guess for how this could have happened

Some of the pictures out there of the crash scene look like it might show the body. I can’t tell on my phone, and hope that isn’t him. I am hoping it is a diver, but I’m not sure a diver has a purple top and black “shorts” on.

I believe he crashed into shallow water. If the plane was upside down even if he survived the crash which he probably would have if the plane hadn't flipped over, he was doomed when it flipped. I don't think the canopy could be opened if it's upside down and resting on the bottom. The force of the plane resting on the bottom would keep the canopy closed. Autopsy will show if there was water in his lungs when he died. My guess is he probably came in for a landing and a small wave flipped the plane and he died trying to open the canopy against the bottom of the sound.
