First of all, I said "looks like."
There are voicemails where Tuiasosopo is clearly pretending to be a female and saying I love you and stuff like that.
Basically, Manti's story is checking out more and more.
He could be gay. I don't think he is. If he is, he's really stupid for covering it up with such an elaborate, yet inconsistent and pitiful, cover up.
ETA: he's obviously not the smartest guy for falling for this. So either way...

Because the lie was created for the benefit of his father, not the media. They killed her off because I believe they thought that would end the attention, and instead it created a media human interest story they couldn't control. I've always leaned towards the gay angle because it's the only explanation in which Te'o is not either mind-bogglingly stupid or a sociopath.

Also, Tuiasosopa has perpetrated this scam with the same name before. I don't see why Te'o would use an already perpetrated scam to hide his sexuality. He'd just hide it.

I've thought he was gay and in on it and I had questions as to why he's made no effort to determine who the chick was on the phone but now, after listening to the voice mails and the news that the voice was Ronaiah who is gay, I think I've come around to believing Ronaiah was obsessed and in love with Te'o.
I don't think Te'o knew because if this was a two-way gay thing, Ronaiah wouldn't be speaking in the falsetto on the voice mails. I've seen his youtube channel and he doesn't speak like that normally.
But Te'o lied to Thamel over when this relationship started (he said October 2012, lied in December 2010 and clearly milked this for attention and publicity. And he's incredibly stupid.
