I've thought he was gay and in on it and I had questions as to why he's made no effort to determine who the chick was on the phone but now, after listening to the voice mails and the news that the voice was Ronaiah who is gay, I think I've come around to believing Ronaiah was obsessed and in love with Te'o.

This is what I think.

I see the argument that he could be gay. But I can't see how y'all don't see the argument that he possibly got duped and covered it up/embellished it with white lies, and they piled up.

It's almost like y'all want the guy to be gay. I mean, if he is, more power to him. I'm just sticking with my original theory until it's disproven.

I do find this to be the funniest, most interesting story in sports in a while. It's just hilarious to me, especially this overdramatic TV interview.

He probably had no questions because he knew it was Ronaiah's voice the entire time.

If not, my first question would have been .... who the frick have I been talking to?

I think why I can buy Teo's story, or some of it, is that he is Mormon. Devout Mormon.

No offense to any Mormons here, but IMO, that religion requires a large amount of faith/suspension of belief/distorted reality to adhere to.

I can see Teo buying a fake story because, well, he's Mormon, so his religion is based on buying a fake story.

Again, no offense, Mormon readers. I respect religious diversity and stuff, I'm just not on board with yours. Blame South Park.

Not this guy.

To me, if it comes out he's gay, then more people will side with him.

Can you imagine the uproar from the gay community if he came out and blamed all of this on him being 'gay?' Everyone would defend him and his sob story.

It will be a breakthrough in terms of the struggles a homosexual man has to go through in order to play a sport traditionally full of homophobics

Back on December 4th this was tweeted:

jay.R @jayRahz
The person behind @LennayKay created the leukemia death story cause of @WhatIsCatfish
9:11 PM - 04 Dec 12

And this:
Jay.R @jayRahz
My fam & I have an idea who the guy is behind the @LennayKay profile & hes up there leading a worship band at his dad's church! SMFH
9:19 PM - 04 Dec 12

So Ronaiah knew the cat was out of the bag so he came clean to Manti on December 6th.

The term "catfished" was used meaning one party was duped.

I eagerly await the day of openly homosexual athletes. It's the civil rights battle of our generation, IMO.

I'll admit it, I don't want him to be gay, because the efforts he has gone into hiding it would make me sad for the gay community.

Also, I've lied to my parents about something big before, and it caused a big strain in our relationship, so I sympathize with his story. Of course, I wasn't on a national media scale.

Those are my biases against him being gay.

I really don't care, I'm not a homophobe, I just find this story extremely compelling.

Because that, to me, seems so much more of a stretch than it being a gay cover. Good looking popular football player falls in love with someone on-line, lies to people about meeting her, but really doesn't, makes no effort to actually meet with her (I would have climbed through a brick wall at that age to get laid my hormones were so strong), then makes no effort to see her on her deathbed when she is taking her last breaths.

It's just way too much to believe for me. The more simple explaination is that it was a popular football player who happened to be gay and does not want his team or conservative family to know.

A 'true' Mormon wouldn't lie about something and keep the lie going on for months

That'd be like if Tebow came out tomorrow and said he was an atheist

Ronaiah was still trying to get Diane O'Meara (the face of "Lennay") to do stuff into the first week of January...She/he wanted O'Meara to do something related to the title game - per O'Meara to AC360 last night
