Trying to think of comparisons for the Brady-Mahomes matchup, the best Romo could come up with was a time-shifting NBA Finals matchup featuring an older Michael Jordan against a young LeBron James.

“LeBron James is chasing Michael Jordan. He’s been his entire career,” Romo said. “Jordan set the bar so high. LeBron has to be so amazing to get in the discussion, and he is. Somehow, he’s put himself in that discussion. The fact that Patrick Mahomes is somehow even remotely in this discussion (with Brady) shows you how amazing this guy is.”

Another example, Romo said, would be Tiger Woods dueling Jack Nicklaus in a golf tournament when both were in their prime.

Framed that way, Romo said, a win in this Super Bowl is much more important to Mahomes, who has beaten Brady two of three times in regular-season play but lost to him in the 2019 AFC Championship Game.

“This is the biggest game Patrick Mahomes will ever play in for the rest of his career,” Romo said. “It’s the only way to catch Tom Brady. He has to win this game. If he loses this game, he cannot catch Tom Brady, in my opinion.”

Room’s got a point. If Brady wins he’ll have 7 vs. Mahomes 1. If Mahomes were to somehow gather 6 more titles before retiring he’d always lose a tiebreaker to Brady based off this game. So in essence he’d need 7 more to surpass Brady.

Eli Manning has two.
Mahomes has a way to go.

He actually won two, Eagles in 09 and Lions in 14, but your point is made and taken.

if Brady wins this to get to 7 and then Mahomes finishes with 7, it’s gonna be Mahomes in a landslide.

He’s going to destroy Brady in the statistics category. He’s going to beat Brady in the eye test. He’s going to beat Brady in MVP’s. The advantage Brady has is in career longevity and accomplishments/wins , which would be a draw here. All of this is assuming Mahomes stays healthy, but if we assume 7 SB’s then he’s staying healthy.

So no. I would argue the opposite of your point. It doesn’t matter who wins this game, if Mahomes has as many SB as Brady then there won’t be a discussion. Mahomes will be the undeniable GOAT, like Brady currently is.

And Dan Marino has zero. You're making the case that Superbowls are irrleveant for QB skill and you don't even realize it

Good grief. Mahomes doesn’t belong in that conversation yet anyway.

Maybe a few more great years and he has a case but not right now. And this year’s Super Bowl won’t change that win or lose.

Agreed, but it's how the media and most fans judge players.
