25 years from now someone will point that around 2010 the NFL was on the edge of being the worldwide top dawg in sports....and...... when they look back on what brought it down.. it will be infinitely sillier that what crippled baseball......

you do not turn off durable goods consumers... it is that simple...

people didn't get that middle america was fed up with the far left and even the middle left this time last year and they still don't get it.

nfl knew that's what amazes me. in the offseason they relaxed celebration penalties and blackballed kaepernick, but they just wouldn't do what they needed to do...tell the players to cut the shite. they just thought fans and players would tucker out in whatever order and it would go away on its own.

the irony is that apolitical mindset drove their decision making

Your memory is dogshit because I never did any of those things. Quote me saying (a) the boycott won't work and (b) anything about the 1st amendment.

Go!

ETA: Look how obsessed you are.

You can accept the challenge on his behalf.

ETA: But you're right. The is an exaggeration. It's more a smirk coupled with a light chuckle.

Yeah a President should NEVER comment on sports

quote:

Obama responded: "Well, as I've said before, I believe that us honoring our flag and our anthem is part of what binds us together as a nation. But I also always try to remind folks that part of what makes this country special is that we respect people's rights to have a different opinion."
Obama added that he believes protesters should be aware that the reason they are able to share their opinions are because people "fight" for them to be able to do so.
"The test of our fidelity to our Constitution, to freedom of speech, to our Bill of Rights, is not when it's easy, but when it's hard," he said. "We fight sometimes so that people can do things that we disagree with ... As long as they're doing it within the law, then we can voice our opinion objecting to it but it's also their right."
The President also continued that it is important for "everybody to listen to each other."
"I want (the protesters) to listen to the pain that that may cause somebody who, for example, had a spouse or a child who was killed in combat and why it hurts them to see somebody not standing," Obama said. "But I also want people to think about the pain he may be expressing about somebody who's lost a loved one that they think was unfairly shot."
Earlier this month, Obama made similar comments about the quarterback, saying he was "exercising his constitutional right" by not standing for the national anthem.

quote:

In an interview with "60 Minutes," Obama addresses a subject college football fans have debated for many years, and says he will use his influence to create such a system.

"If you've got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there's no clear decisive winner. We should be creating a playoff system," he tells CBS' Steve Kroft in an interview to be broadcast Sunday

quote:

Asked and Answered: President Obama's 2016 NCAA Basketball Championship Brackets

So do you just hate his opinion (which is shared by the vast majority of his supporters)? Do you hate Presidents being involved in sports? Or do you just hate him?

You realize there have been numerous boycotters from both sides, right?

Jerry Jones forced Goodell's hand in those contract negotiations.

Uh, ok Obama. As long as that opinion doesn't offend your sensitive sensibilities

am I to believe you haven't at every turn explained the ratings problems being a result of hurricanes, shitty matchups, blowouts, other tv events?

your post history is full of them.

when you can't see that a giants/cowboys SNF game being up 5 y2y on a game that was down 16%, you're not looking at things in 20/20

Never.

shitty matchups
quote:

blowouts
Sometimes, like the current dip in SEC on CBS ratings.
quote:

other tv events
The presidential debates from last year? I don't think that's in dispute. Both sides agree to that fact. Pro-NFL side used that to explain the dip in 2016. Anti-NFL side used that to explain the rise in 2017 compared to 2016.

I think the decrease is due to a number of factors.
- cord cutting
- rule changes
- kneeling
- shitty matchups
- oversaturation
- general change in TV watching

Pointing to any one factor that saying "that's why!" is silly.

ETA: It's funny that you hate sports but love discussing them. What an interesting life you lead.

California is burning, Puerto Rico is under water, and all Trump cares about are the TV ratings for a network that he's pissy with and some senator's height.

He's a joke.

ok, let's check it out

quote:

- cord cutting

NBC, CBS and FOX are network channels...they're free. that's such a preposterous explanation. I don't know one cord cutter without an HD satellite, not to mention HULU with live tv, amazon streaming NBC and CBS games this year.

quote:

- rule changes

why is that? tell me why that is?

quote:

- kneeling

the catalyst IMO. mounting problems and then this made it easier for people to turn it off or change the channel

quote:

- shitty matchups

do shitty matchups and blowouts not predate 2016? certainly a factor but only when compounded with other things

quote:

- oversaturation

agree

quote:

- general change in TV watching

explain or is this just "cord cutting" repackaged?
