The plan would be to sign DWill or Nash. would prefer to sign Dragic, trade Lowry, and keep the picks.

I hope you mean the 5 & 8 picks. I don't want any more mid 1st round picks that wont get enough playing time.

I've heard Dalembert+14 for 5 and Garcia is possible. 16+Lowry for 8. But that seems like too much to give up for the 8. I would think Lowry+16 for the 6 would make more sense. Then you can offer Orlando 5+6/8 and any combination of Budinger, Parsons, Scola, Patterson, Montajunas, Lull, Martin. My god we have a lot of assets we can trade.

but seems like they are willing to trade away all these quality players to get one. then what.

Rockets have stockpiled a lot of decent players, there's just no star. They would still have Scola, Parsons, Budinger, Dragic, Patterson and Lee in that scenario unless I'm missing something with the trade pieces and FA. I admit that wouldn't be a great team but overall I think it's a much better roster and a definite playoff team.

Plan is to trade up their 14 and 16 picks with Toronto and Sacramento for 5 and 8 (I think). Then send those two picks plus Lowry maybe to Orlando.

Uh, no. That isn't whats being reported.

They will have to trade their two picks, plus Lowry, Montiejunas, and others in order to get 5 and 8.

Basically, they will then offer 5-8 plus take on any bad contracts from Orl to get Dwight.

Dwight is preparing to bitch and moan accordingly. Houston =/= NY, NJ or LA and doesn't have any stars he can play James/Wade Paul/Griffin with

If we take DH at his word he will end up in one of those cities. But of the Knicks, Nets, Clippers, or Lakers do any of them really have the salary flexibility to trade for him or sign him as a free agent?

The Lakers could I guess if they are unloading Pau and trade Bynum to get him? What about the other teams?

#14, #16, Lowry, Dalembert, and Martin are definitely enough assets to get the two lottery picks they want.

makes no sense.

Dwight is going to be a free agent in a year.

stupid SF/Golden Warriors did the same stupid thing giving Orlando a premier point guard Penny Hardaway, and 3 #1's for that power forward from Michigan who took time out when Mich didnt have a time out.
he bolted for his $100 million leaving the warriors NOTHING.

its a bad idea to trade for Howard. he wont stay and they lose all those picks.

If they can really move up and get those two high picks, they should do it and use them themselves.

I'm perplexed on the 'maybe' factor of it as well, but I'm trying to look at it this way:

The Rockets have drafted fairly well and acquired some quality young role players. With that plethora the only piece they are missing is a elite big man.

So it's a gamble they feel is worth taking.

At this point they can continue being mediocre, being a 7th/8th seed or missing the playoffs all together. Being stuck with picks outside of the lottery with more and more role players.

Or gamble on Dwight for a few pieces, hoping they can promise/assure him they are bringing in another big free agent next year.

If it doesn't work out then they really aren't that much off worse than they are now are they? Still building with young talent

Lowry doesn't want to play for McHale anyhow.

I'm no Rockets expert fan, but follow them since I'm here. Just a guess at this play.

I think a huge factor is that if we are able to bring Howard here, that will attract other free agents to come here to play with him. As of now, there isn't really any reason why a FA would want to come to Houston

ive always been a huge dwight howard guy, but i dont want him if we have to gut the team and he wont sign the extension first.

i would much rather keep the 5th/8th pick and deal all old guys and play super young, lose alot, get another top 5 pick next year, and have a young, exciting team-- similar to the OKC blueprint.

As a devout Magic fan since 93/94, I've said that if we get .60 cents on the dollar for Dwight it's a good day. He's tarnished his rep and there's no guarantee he will sign an extension any where.

Serious question: where the hell do you get your NBA facts from?

- Penny wasn't a premier PG he was just a draft pick when GS traded him
- GS traded Webber to Washington for Tom Gugliotta and 3 1st rounders
