She butted in to a conversation that didn't involve her and he said, "sweetheart, stay out of this." When she got woke and uppity because he called her that, he said, "ok then a-hole!"

He had as smooth a delivery as any PBP man in the game. He almost brought a sense of gravitas to the game. His tone could connote excitement without having to be an obnoxious screaming buffoon like many of today's announcers. Big games almost felt like dramatic theatre when Franklin was on the call. He was a part of a bygone era of announcing that has since been replaced with a far inferior product. It makes me want to turn off the TV now every time I have to hear Gus Johnson, or Chris Fowler, or Joe Tessitore scream maniacally about a pick up of 5 yards on a 1st down play with 13 minutes to go in the first quarter of a game.

The only modern day “screamer” i like and can tolerate is Kevin Harlan. Ron’s voice was just perfect for southern Saturday night football.

Then they punished him by demoting him to the afternoon secondary big 12 game

I believe it was "sweetcakes", and it was during a production meeting involving Rod Gilmore too. . So that's what did ol' Ron in.

Everyone needs to lay off of Holly for getting him fired.

the fcuk I won't lay off Holly for not knowing her place and interrupting like a typical uppity American woman.

She needed to take a seat, know her damn role and shut her damn mouth.

The Holly Rose incident was the first. He got fired for calling Jeannine Edwards sweet baby and a-hole before the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

It’s a shame because he was an outstanding PBP guy. Loved him on Saturday nights. Much better than Fowler.

I don’t see where ESPN.com acknowledged his death. Maybe I missed that.

Yuck. He overdoes it big-time.

Ron was an idiot for saying that, but ESPN was already phasing him out along with fellow OG Mike Patrick at that point, so they were probably looking for a reason to get rid of him.

One of the few CFB announcers I wouldn't mute the TV for.

Yes Jeanine Edwards, you think Ron would hit on a whale like Holly Rowe? The man had class.

2nd favorite college voice behind Keith Jackson. Grew up with Ron calling Texas games on the radio.

I thought he called Janine Edwards sweet baby during a meeting and she took offense, then ESPN fired him?
