Had no idea this dude had cancer. Apparently it was a very rare type of thyroid cancer.

"The Gator"!!

My favorite player as a kid. Lost the AL MVP in 1988 to Canseco. Hell of a ball player and played his whole MLB carrer with the Red Sox.

Awesome dude.

Not too many Red Sox I’ll speak positively of, but Gator was a real one. RIP

Before injuries took hold he really looked like he had a shot at Cooperstown. He could flat hit and it really didn’t matter if it was home or road.

He gave me his autograph when they played the Rangers back in the late 80’s. He was so nice to all of us when most players ignored us. R.I.P.

One of the respected Bosox mainstays for a time.

I'm going to go ahead and shake my head, suspecting you-know-what.

RIP, Mike.

Drove dirt-track cars, until the Sox made him quit.
Damn good hitter.

I love batters who hit for power and don’t strike out. Ted Kluzewski and Yogi Berra were two other examples. And Yogi swung at everything, he just friggin’ made hard contact all the time.

Damn you’re right, for some reason I thought he hit more homers, like in the high 20s. It’s been a while since he played LOL.

For a while, the Red Sox had Greenwell and Ellis Burks in their OF.
