Sherm is right.

At this point almost half of the QBs playing right now will make it in going by these standards.

MLB does it out of pettiness. The writers are essentially the nerds who were picked on and only vote for who was nice to them. At least 3 top ten players of all time are not in the Hall. MLB does not do it right.

yeah, I can't take baseball's HOF seriously as long as Bonds isn't in.

I get his points but i blame most of that on the Lions. Right now he’s not but he’s got time to make the case as long as he can stay healthy. He’s currently 12th all-time in yards and TDs. If he plays at this same level for the next 3-5 years, he’ll finish in the top 5 of those categories.

The HOF shouldn’t remind you about players, it should be where you go to see the ones you remember.

Walter Payton. Montana. Rice. Emmitt. LT. Deion. Marino. Etc

Inducting only the top 1% of players doesn't sound like Canton is just giving away Yellow Jackets. A few Hall of very damn good / borderline types get in & maybe it should be a little more exclusive , but let's not pretend there is some floodgates of undeserving players.

I agree about Stafford( 1× pro bowler) though. Carson Palmer & Drew Bledsoe have 7 Pro Bowls combined & have led the League in several major statistical categories ( Yards/ Tds/ completion pct/Ypg,etc) unlike Stafford. I've never thought Stafford was better than these 2 much less a Hofer.

Yeah, but at some point Stafford should have gotten out of there way before he did. I don’t know his contract timeline and they did have back to back 11 win seasons somewhere in there, but he shouldn’t have resigned with them several years ago. That’s on him.

Maybe for non skill positions. That’s the whole point… who sets the bar? When is the bar adjusted?

They take it too far, this past year's class is a great example.

Harold Baines is in the Hall of Fame.

If anything, they let too many ‘very goods’ in the baseball Hall as well.

Yet no one Questions whether Megatron , Barry Sanders or old school Detroit TE Charleie Sanders( 1 playoff game) deserve to be in the HOF. Leroy Selmon would have prayed to get to Detroit after playing his career with the expansion Bucs. Andre Tippet made the playoffs once in his career with the Patriots , but is an unquestioned Hofer. Weak blaming the franchise for you not being an outstanding player/ HOF type.

If Stafford is seriously considered for the HOF I feel that Carson Palmer & Drew Bledsoe should be in line as well.

Matt Stafford has never led the league in yards, TDs passer rating, yards/attempt, or yards/completion but has led the league in attempts twice and completions once.

His TD numbers are surprisingly low given his attempts (except for this year). He had 20 TDs on 727 attempts in 2012...which just seems absurd. Man holds the NFL record for attempts but only had 20 TDs...while having Megatron almost eclipse 2000 yards in his prime.

Also, Stafford made the pro bowl in 2014 when 5 QBs did did not play due to injury or playing in the super bowl. so was a pretty deep replacement on the list

Tom Brady wouldn't have zero playoff wins if he was a Lion. The Bucs went from Lion-quality to Super Bowl champion in one year.

No one is saying that Matt Stafford is as deserving as Tom Brady.

This doesn't get said enough (along with the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Hockey Hall of Fame), none of these HOFs are restricted to just the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL.

I absolutely disagree with this part. It’s not just about the raw statistics, it’s about the context of how they are achieved. Stafford is better than both of those guys. Circumstances and situations matter.

Right now he is on a borderline trajectory. If he retires tomorrow, he doesn't get in. If he continues to pad his stats and accumulate some more playoff success in the next 3-5 years, then he will probably get in.

It's too soon to make a call on him. He's not a no-doubter but he's good enough to warrant a totality evaluation once he is done playing. Same with Matt Ryan, although Ryan is probably facing a steeper climb.

Stafford has 5 seasons with over 600 pass attempts( 2 more with over 590) ..Carson Palmer has 0 seasons with 600 attempts & threw for over 46k yards in 1 fewer game than Stafford(49k) in a more pass friendly league. Yet Palmer/ Bledsoe have led the League in tds/yds/ completion pct/ypg/ ypa/ypc, etc) unlike Stafford. They also received more respect from their peers( 7 Pro Bowls to 1 for Stafford).

I like Sherman’s focus on not being the best QB in the league at any given time as well. I think longevity is overrated, I want to know how great a player was at their very best, even if it was brief.
