Yes, I think this is a big deal for the Pels. If they're interested in a deal with picks, there's a big motivation to be able to pick for themselves instead of getting stuck with who another team selects.
I don't think it means they have to get a deal done before, but that they'll do serious legwork to flesh out options before.
