Kneejerk contract extensions in college football have been a thing for a long time.
Mike Shula got one for a great coaching job in '05 (despite another loss to Auburn), but was fired the next year.
Mel Tucker got one for a great coaching job in 2021 (despite an absolute beatdown by Ohio State), and his team is currently under .500.
