They were in a bowl game last season.

This was always a rebuilding year for them

That was an excuse back when you had to build teams through high school recruiting and developing those players over 2 or 3 seasons in the program. The rebuilding year argument doesn't hold nearly as much water in the era of the transfer portal with NIL.

Not saying he was expected to have UNC in the playoffs or competing for the ACC title. But I think realistic expectations were to win 7 or 8 games. Especially looking at their schedule where they're possibly going to finish having played more games vs FCS teams than against top 25 teams.

I'm not sure what kind of coach they think they are going to be able to pull into Chapel Hill between the way the treated Mack Brown on the way out and (if true) how they seem to be trying to set up claims of recruiting violations to wriggle out of their deal w/Belichick.

Like sure they'll be able to find somebody but I seriously doubt any truly in demand up and comer is going to want to risk his first big time gig at a school w/very little history of winning acting this way.

That's the most surprising thing about all of this, the revelation this new wild west sport still has their horse tethered to unarmed Sheriff.

How many teams have actually has a winning season w/a first year coach who turned the roster over the way Belichick did? He has 70 new players this year. Expecting a roster w/that much turnover to win 8 games is crazy.

Agree. But you should at least look somewhat competitive in conference. They have looked like a mid sunbelt team

Good. Maybe the university thinks having his whore girlfriend being the face of the program isn’t a good look

That would be a logical reason to get Bill out of town if they are facing potential sanctions for recruiting violations.
So North Carolina State is going on probation again?

Curt Cigneti got Indiana to the playoff last year.

fricking Indiana

Dan Mullen took 49 transfers at UNLV this year and is 5-0

Deion went 9-4 his first year at Colorado with 86 new players on the roster

Nowhere near equivalent.

Cignetti only took in 31 new players and almost half of them were all from JMU so they didn't have to learn a completely new system.

His downward spiral started when the Pats moved on from Tom Brady.

Then he takes up with a gal born when he was in his 50's and makes a big fool out of himself to further damage his so-called "Legacy".

Ain't no fool like an old fool.

He was a first year coach with 31 new players, including the quarterback (who didn’t come from JMU). That’s the exact question you asked

No it isn't. I asked if anyone had done with with the kind of roster turnover that BB did at UNC. Again, he has 70+ new players.

You're wrong on Deion too. Last year was his second year at CU. Year one they went 4-8.

Mullen and UNLV did bring in 51 players but UNLV also went 11-3 last year and has got one of the easiest schedules in the country.Their wins are 2-4 Indiana State, 0-5 Sam Houston, 1-4 UCLA, 2-3 Miami Ohio, and 2-3 Wyoming.

Noooooooooooo!

The last thing Cal needs is a post-"got rid of dead weight and his skank" euphoria from UNC. UCLA looks rejuvenated after firing their coach.

Cal has a habit of providing bad teams their only win of their terrible seasons.

See:
wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Arizona_Wildcats_football_team
wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Colorado_Buffaloes_football_team
wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Florida_State_Seminoles_football_team (only FBS win)

OK, UNC does already have an FBS win (Charlotte). But there is a very real chance that Cal could give UNC their only P4 win of the season. Because that's just how Justin Wilcox teams perform. No need to help UNC out by ridding them of the Belichick albatross around their neck.

I would like Bill to stick around so I can witness in person a miserable Belichick-led UNC team in nine days.

Yeah I’m just not trying to hear this. At all.

Prime showed up in Boulder with, what, two years of HC experience? Nearly completely turned that roster over and improved year over year.

The difference of course, is that Prime (his faults aside) did it on purpose and with the intent of brining in better players. Bill ran most of those dudes off because his UNC era was a clown show from day one. So, every dude who could bail did and Bill had absolutely no plan to backfill with better or even equivalent talent.

This didn’t “just happen” to Bill. He’s completely f’d up this program and anybody sane would want him gone ASAP.

Goalpost [Moved]

The whole point, is yes, it’s possible to be successful with a heavy portal team in year one.

You still need high school talent and player development for sustained success, but in today’s era, with the amount of money North Carolina gave BB and his team to build the team, there’s no excuse having a MAC level roster.

I didn't move the goalposts. I set them in the first post you responded to.

I'm sorry but acting like 31 new players is the same as 71 is ridiculous and you know it.
