Remember: the two folks most responsible for Rizzo's inclusion in A-Gon deal now work with the Cubs.

Well, I go take a nap and look what happens. Fleece the Reds for our #2 starter. Lolz.

Number 2 starter? lol

Latos is a stud. They got a really nice haul, but Mat is a tremendous pitcher.

Big win for The Padres IMO.

I could see Volquez putting up some great numbers pitching in SD. Over Latos' career he has a 3.57 ERA on the road and a 3.11 ERA at home. He's had really good road numbers, but the Reds have to be expecting some 2010 Latos stats to give up that much for him. If Latos can do that it's a win win since Alonso and Grandal are wouldn't have seen much PT.

He was technically our #2 starter behind Harang. Mat is a better pitcher, however.

Terrible trade for the Reds. Gave up way too much.

This is a very good deal for the Pads. Reds gave up way too much imo with Latos being a flyball pitcher and wildly inconsistent.

Latos is one of my favorite pitchers in the majors. I think he will be an absolute stud. He looked like a top 10 pitcher in 2010 and was really good in the second half of 2011. He had some terrible luck last year, but he was able to turn it around for a decent season.

I hope he does well with the Reds (except against the Cubs).

They didn't give up anyone that was going to get significant time for them this year. Grandal isn't ready yet, and he's blocked by Mesoraco. Alonso can't play OF worth a shite, so he's blocked by Votto at 1B. Boxberger wasn't going to see the majors for them this year, and the Reds have already given up on Volquez. He wasn't even slated to make the rotation BEFORE they got Latos. They are playing for the present, not the future.

High price? Sure. But they weren't going to make any noise in the postseason with their current rotation. There aren't any teams coming off a #1 starter for any cheaper than that.

LOTS of Reds fans are pissed about the deal, which confuses the shite out of me. They've spent 20 years complaining about the front office "playing for the future," and now that they make a move to place them as the NL Central favorites, they get pissed. Idiots.

Wildly inconsistent in terms of not throwing strikes, or inconsistent in terms of not stringing together good starts consecutively?

He obviously has ace stuff, but he is not an ace every time out.

To bad the central is going to blow this year, so it wouldn't require much to be the favorite.

He set a major league record with 15 consecutive starts allowing 2 runs or less in 2010. If that's not consistent, I dont know what is.

And then he struggled in the first half of 2011.

And if there's anything to worry about with Latos, it's his tendency to be a hothead.

I'm hoping as he matures that he will control that better. He's still just 24.

Uhhh, no.

Latos doesn't make them a 90 win team alone and I think the brewers and cards can still get to 90
