They didn't give up anyone that was going to get significant time for them this year. Grandal isn't ready yet, and he's blocked by Mesoraco. Alonso can't play OF worth a shite, so he's blocked by Votto at 1B. Boxberger wasn't going to see the majors for them this year, and the Reds have already given up on Volquez. He wasn't even slated to make the rotation BEFORE they got Latos. They are playing for the present, not the future.

High price? Sure. But they weren't going to make any noise in the postseason with their current rotation. There aren't any teams coming off a #1 starter for any cheaper than that.

LOTS of Reds fans are pissed about the deal, which confuses the shite out of me. They've spent 20 years complaining about the front office "playing for the future," and now that they make a move to place them as the NL Central favorites, they get pissed. Idiots.

This is exactly how I feel. If you just look at the talent sure it looks like the reds gave up alot but that talent was blocked from seeing any pt. I'm a big fan of this trade. Now we just need a LF and closer before the April.

Don't like the move for the Reds. I see their thinking, but Alonso/Grandal have a lot of potential, and Volquez has issues but could be very good.

Latos' numbers will likely spike at GABP.
