I know we have some historians on this site, I love hearing about really good old teams that either got screwed over by the system or were outshined by other teams.

I'll start with one modern example and I'll list some other ones later if they arent mentioned.

2014 TCU:

The very first year of the CFB playoff. The last week they're sitting at #3 in the poll. They beat Iowa State 55-3. Drop to #6. Went on to beat Ole Miss 42-3 in the Peach Bowl. They had a very good squad, scored 82 points against Texas Tech. . Their only setback was against Baylor. They were up 58-37 in the 4th and Baylor stormed back. TCU went for it on 4th down late in the game and a lot of people think PI should have been called but it wasnt. Then on Baylor's final field goal push they got a PI call that some say shouldnt have been PI.

No one will really remember them because Ohio State, the team that got in over them, ended up winning it all but after the results of the bowl game who's to say TCU couldnt have made the same run? Boykin and the Frogs were absolutely electric that year.

If anyone from the Big 12 should have been in that year it’s baylor. They beat them H2H and it was retarded that it wasn’t taken into account with both having the same record.

If 2011 LSU beats Alabama a second time, it goes down as one of the greatest CFB teams of all-time.

1990 Notre Dame

The phantom clip cost them a possible share of National Title

1990 UVA

The loss in Georgia Tech killed them. Then a 1 point loss to UT in Sugar Bowl

Any of the teams that didn’t win the CFP

I always say that 1994 Penn State is the most balanced offensive machine I have ever seen.

2007 Oregon

Dennis Dixon wins the heisman that year and the Ducks are almost certainly in the ship if he doesn’t get hurt.

Well it was.
They finished 5th in the final CFP ranking. TCU 6th.

2001 Oregon should have been in over Nebraska. Colorado hung 60+ on Nebraska and beat Texas to win the Big 12, it was really dumb that Nebraska was even in there. I know '01 Miami is considered one of the best teams in history, but I wish they'd have had a different opponent.

It was Indiana that caused them to fall the second time. They allowed a TD very late

1994 PSU is only behind 2005 USC as the best offense of all-time.

As mentioned Dixon's Oregon team...they were rolling with their new-fangled offense that nobody had caught up to yet.

You felt they were on cruise control to win it all.

I think people forget about the great ASU team with Jake the Snake that came within a minute of winning the National Title and now nobody talks about them.
