Cal had whipped #15 Tennessee to start the year.

A Tennessee team that played in the SEC Championship game that year against LSU.

And lost by a TD, to the eventual National Champions!

You downplaying that 2007 Oregon team is disengenous because of a TD Cal loss.

And Oregon finished with 4 losses. Besides, it was 07, everyone lost to teams they shouldnt have

Three of them came after Dixon was hurt and they were all to unranked opponents.

Dixon is one of the electric players in college football history imo. What he was doing that year was incredible.

Cal had Lavelle Hawkins (TYFYS), Alex Mack, Desean Jackson, Justin Forsett and Jahvid Best. Their offense was stacked

Sounds like the committee got it right.

I hate this logic. Nothing that happens once the 4 are set changes whether or not they were the most deserving 4.

If anyone from the Big 12 should have been in that year it’s baylor. They beat them H2H and it was retarded that it wasn’t taken into account with both having the same record.

It was taken into account. Plus Baylor beat TCU at home by 3 with the help of a very questionable PI call.

Ohio St clearly had a better resume though.

Better record vs a tougher schedule. Oregon shouldn’t have been ranked ahead of Nebraska. There’s pretty much no math that gets you to that conclusion.

They each only had 1 loss. Nebraska beat 2 ranked teams, Oregon beat 3.

TCU was ranked higher going into the last week of the season than baylor was. That is/was retarded.

Regardless, I think both Baylor and TCU could have made some noise that year had either of them gotten in.

Well they didn't get curbstomped in the SEC Champ game by the National Champions.

So there's that.

That year, the feeling was with Dixon, holy shite, this team is going to win it all...from all schools...Oregon.

Dixon injury turned a Ferrari into a VW Bug. They might not have won it all but they weren't losing again after the Cal game in the Pac...and would've been a BCS rep.

Well duh, LSU was missing their starting QB and best player on defense.
They also got clownstomped 59-20 by UF.

'm looking at the AP polls from 94. They fell from #1 to #2 before the Indiana game (after beating Ohio St 63-14).

#3 Nebraska beat #2 Colorado by 17 that same week. Nebraska has the 2nd most first place votes going into that week too.

So? Oregon beat more ranked teams during the season. Why does an extra win against an unranked team put then over the top? Especially when you end the season getting 60+ dropped on you. By the team Oregon beat in the bowl game no less, and yes I know you cant account for that during selection, just a tidbit I thought I'd drop.

1998 Ohio State was the first team that came to mind. That team was beyond loaded.

2001 Florida was Spurrier's best team and would have played for a national title if Earnest Graham wasn't injured. They wouldn't have beaten a historically talented Miami team though.

2005 Ohio State was Tressel's best team. The two teams they lost to were Penn State and Texas, who lost a combined one game. They would have smoked PSU at the end of the season.

2007 WVU would be remembered as an all time great college offense had they not been upset by Pitt. They may have put 50 on Ohio State in the national title game.

The 5th Quarter Florida Team was pretty good also. That Sugar Bowl rematch loss was their only defeat also

They lost to Auburn too.

It's insane though that they'd drop after beating an eventual top 10 Ohio St by 49 points.

I think 2006 LSU should be mentioned too. I kinda wanted to be unbiased but they had 4 first rounders in the subsequent draft (yeah I know Russell was a bust). But they ended the season playing some of the hottest football in the league (much like UGA in 07, speaking of forgotten teams).
