Again I realize this is dumb and I’m absolutely not advocating for it, just interested in the thought.

How much would NBA and College basketball strategy change if there was a rule in place that you couldn’t shoot the ball if your hands are above the rim? Obviously you couldn’t dunk, and most tip ins wouldn’t be legal etc... also some of those elite guys probably shoot a lot of runners and pull ups with their hands above the rim or close to it.

Wouldn’t change high school ball much

At one time dunking was illegal, but that is my only contribution to this thread

Also, back when teams thought the set shot was more efficient than a jump shot.

Walton went 21 of 22 in the championship game and wasn't allowed to dunk.

How in the hell would you judge that on any shot but right at the rim. Would give the refs even more control over the score. This was stupid...really stupid.

Just raise the goal to 15' and your problem is solved.

I've often pondered why free throws aren't shot as jump shots

Is it just because people are worried about crossing the line or does that even matter?

Jump shot free throws would add extra motion to the shot. I do see a few FT shooters back off the line about 12 inches or so.

And about half of them were illegal dunks.

We have that already. It’s called women’s basketball. And you see how much that sucks.
