Ranking the (mediocre to bad) Coaching Hires of Downtrodden National Powers

Texas, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska and Tennessee all have something in common - they’ve made god awful coaching hires since their last national championship. I’m going to try to rank them.
I haven’t included current head coaches but I have a feeling some will soon be joining the list.
The coaches:
Nebraska –
Frank Solich – 1998-2003 – 58-19 (0.753) Won Division 1999, 2 NY6 Bowls 1999 W, 2001
Bill Callahan – 2004-2007 – 27-22 (0.551) Won Division 2006, NY6 Bowl 2006
Bo Pelini – 2008-2014 – 66-27 (0.710) Won Division 2009, 2010 & 2012, 2 NY6 Bowl 2011 & 2012
Mike Riley 2015-2017 – 19-19 (0.500)
Tennessee –
Lane Kiffin 2009 – 7-6 (0.538)
Derek Dooley – 2010-2013 – 15-21 (0.417)
Butch Jones 2013-2017 – 30-21 (0.588)
Michigan –
Rich Rodriguez – 2008-2010 – 15-22 (0.405)
Brady Hoke – 2011-2014 – 31-20 (0-2 as Tennessee Interim HC) (0.608)
Texas –
Charlie Strong 2014-2016 – 15-21 (0.417)
Miami –
Randy Shannon 2007-2010 – 28-22 (0.560)
Al Golden 2011-2015 – 32-25 (0.561)
Mark Richt 2016-2018 – 26-12 (0.684) Won Division 2017, NY6 Bowl 2017
Tiers – A successful season or two (>0.650)
1. Frank Solich – Highest winning percentage and the only coach to win a NY6 Game, finished ranked 2/3 in 1999
2. Bo Pelini – Won division 3 times, second highest winning percentage
3. Mark Richt – Had the Hurricanes at #2 for a brief period in 2017
Mediocore (0.500 – 0.650)
4. Brady Hoke
5. Butch Jones
6. Al Golden
7. Randy Shannon
8. Bill Callahan
9. Lane Kiffin
10. Mike Riley

Tennessee and Nebraska are lost causes due to geographic issues. If they can hire a coach that averages 8-9 wins they should be very happy.
Miami is a mess.
No excuse for Texas or Michigan.

Is Tennessee really at a geographical disadvantage compared to Michigan?

I disagree on RichRod. He didn't set Michigan back years, they went 11-2 and won a BCS bowl the year after he was fired.
RichRod left a lot of raw materials that Hoke had success with early. Hoke fell apart down the line when his own recruits started playing big roles.

In hindsight, that doesn’t seem that bad

HS football in TN is just not as good as the home states of other "Blue Bloods"... Sure there are some good athletes but not nearly as many

Butch Jones has got to be the worst. He had Alvin Kamara and he didn't do jack shite with him.
ALVIN
frickING
KAMARA
Hoke is a close second. He ran interest in Michigan football down to the point where if you bought two Cokes in the student union, they gave you a pair of tickets. Swear to God.
I love the fact that fat dipshit Jason Whitlock urged Tennessee to hire Brady Hoke. Going from Butch to him would truly be Dumb and Dumber.

I don't really blame Nebraska too much for falling off because it's probably hard to get people to go there nowadays.
The others have no excuse for being terrible. Desirable locations, historic programs, and tons of money.

Michigan record since 2015 is better than their record from 1990-2007

Really? Wow. So Harbs is in trouble for getting teabagged by Urbs and shitting the bed in bowl games?
Posted on 10/4/19 at 3:48 pm to HailHailtoMichigan!
I’d say a big part of the problem with Harbaugh is a combination of how much they are paying him and the expectations that come as a result of that.
Shitting the bed in big games is a problem to begin with but it is a lot harder to take when you are paying top dollar for that right.

I know you didn't include current coaches, but Pruitt may be the worst of the bunch, even worse than Strong at Texas.

The state of Tennessee produces more blue chip prospects than Michigan. Historically, it wasn’t unusual for UM to have more players from Ohio than Michigan on their roster. In recent years, they have pulled a lot of recruits out of FL, GA, TX, and NJ.

Nebraska is not that bad. No coach under .500. They just had unrealistic expectations. Didn’t they fire Solich coming off a 10 win season?
Posted on 10/4/19 at 4:13 pm to kciDAtaE
Something like that.
There excuse was that they were on a downward trajectory and needed to fix it, IIRC. So they hired Bill Callahan who ran a completely different system from Osborne and Solich, running things into the ground in the process.

Nebraska should not have fired Pelini.

USC should be on this list
