We could do "what if" all day and night and we would still disagree.

Elways' still considered a top 3 QB in NFL history by most everybody with a brain and an understanding of football, even with his horrible luck in head coaches for 80% of his career.

Dan Reeves was kryptonite to Elway's stats.

Most conservative coach in NFL history

Elway was consistently in the top 5 in pass attempts under Reeves? And, if I'm not mistaken, in the top 10 in pass attempts just about every single year under Reeves.

That included a 1st, 2nd, and 4th in pass attempts in the NFL, so the numbers don't show Reeves to be as conservative as you say.

Otto Graham (Cleveland Browns)

10 Seasons:

10 strait championship games
7 titles
23,584 yds passing
174 TD's
114-20-4 record as starter
(.851) winning pct.

All of that was done when the NFL played 12 games. Show me another QB with those stats who led his team to 10 strait championships? Otto Graham is so underrated its scary!!

In no way am I trying to diminish such a great feat, but things were a tad different than. There were about 9 other teams to go through, not 31.

And I don't know the history much that far back, but I wonder if his teams were just stacked like the Celtics teams back in the day, where they didn't have much competition considering they had so much talent.

I still don't follow how Elway is ahead of Manning.

I simply don't.

But if they only want great players in the Hall, he doesn't belong. Moon was very good. Not great.

So by your logic, Marino wasn't great and doesn't belong in the Hall.

I agree that he would've had some awesome all-time totals because of his longevity. I doubt that it automatically means that he'd be an all-time great.

AGAIN by your logic this comment makes Marino NOT great. Think about it.

FAIL

Obviously you didnt watch any football between 1985-2000. John Elway is top 5 on anybody's list. How dare you rate him number 10.

I'm close to MStreet, but I'm gonna take one from each era and just list them alphabetically

Manning
Montana
Unitas

You could put Elway instead of Montana and not hurt my feelings or Graham over Unitas (that would hurt my feelings, but I would understand). Peyton, I think, is establishing himself as clearly the greatest QB of the "passing era".

1. Peyton Manning (will be undoubtedly)
2. Joe Montana (Super Bowls really elevate his status)
3. Dan Mariono

Young should be ahead of Favre, FWIW. Hell, Young SHOULD be in the top five of all time discussion...

Depends on criteria. If you're comparing quarterbacks at their best, then yes. Young at his peak was the most brilliant quarterback I ever saw play.

The knocks on Young are that he didn't sustain it for very long and he played on ridiculously loaded teams.

Because he sat behind a top 5 QB? Young shouldn't be penalized for that.
