A guy like Tim Brown winning will never happen again. Being a WR and playing on a non top 10 team. I’m not even sure how it happened at that time.
Tim Brown didn't deserve to win it, Don McPherson from Syracuse did.

No just no
Uh, yes he did. He finished second in Heisman voting.
Tim Brown's numbers: 39 Rec, 846 Yds, 21.7 Avg, 3 TD
Don McPherson: 129 Cmp, 229 Att, 2341 Yds, 22 TD, 11 Int
Syracuse finished the regular season undefeated and ranked 3rd. Notre Dame was 8-4, unranked and finished on a three game losing streak. Brown won because of the Notre Dame reputation.

Herschel's in a class by himself (though he should've won in 80 or Hugh Green) so no. 1 plus he carried those UGA teams to the heights they reached pretty much by himself
2. Marcus Allen, first running back in NCAA history to exceed 2k yards, was mind-blowing then, deserves historical extra credit for it next to the fact he was pretty much written off as a top USC back compared to his predecessors, exceeded expectations
3. Barry Sanders, arguably the greatest single-season ever produced by an athlete/non-quarterback in the game's history and he did it playing with "I'm a Man I'm 40" Mike Gundy as QB
4. Bo Jackson, Bo's gonna Bo, Auburn typically was a better team when he played with Little Train in 82 and 83 but dude's a legend so I'll give 85 top 5
5. Mike Rozier, underrated back of the 80s, probably the 3rd greatest single-season produced by an athlete during that era behind Allen and Sanders: 2,486 total yards, 2,148 rushing yards, 29 TDs, 7.8 YPC, and submitted 147 yards on 26 carries against Miami (second ranked defense in the nation) in the 1984 Orange Bowl
6. Andre Ware, I know Run and Shoot but those stats were mind-boggling I mean they won a game 95-21 it was CRAZY, just insane what he produced
7. Tim Brown
8. Vinny Testaverde
9. Doug Flutie
10. George Rogers

Add in Browns returns rushing and other things. Plus add in the huge plays he made.
I love how you think he was just a WR
Brown was easily the best player. He was Rocket before the Rocket.

How the frick does that happen?
And were you in school for this? Always jealous of people that experience national title winning seasons in school
Must be amazing

Lol. No and no.

Because they were behind Miami and OU who were both unbeaten and played in Orange Bowl. Syracuse was independent then. The Orangemen went to the Sugar Bowl and laid an egg, no way they should’ve tied that game. Syracuse was ranked 4th at time of the game.
Notre Dame went to the Cotton and got smoked

Yes and yes. Take your Syracuse bias off and Tim Brown did everything the Rocket did. Matter of fact the Rocket replaced him in the role.

We had some talented, well coached teams in the eighties. Donnie Mac was a poised, senior quarterback who deserved the Heisman over Tim Brown on a mediocre ND squad. I was in high school then. No NC for that team, they finished 11-0-1 with a tie against Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.

Fair you said it
But Syracuse deserved no part of National Championship as 1 played 2 in Orange bowl in a game of unbeatenS
Miami smoked OU in Johnson’s last game at Miami.

I never made that claim, SU finished the season ranked where they should have been.

I was at SC for 11 win seasons, but we had no national title or conference title chances because of how the season went :(

That part was directed at the Carolina fan actually asking how they were not 1 or 2
Syracuse was good but untested
They only played I think 2 ranked teams that year. But it wasn’t their fault that Pitt had started stinking and WVU was down.
Maryland
Rutgers
Kent
But somehow they didn’t play Penn St
That’s off memory. So maybe I’m missing a team

I didn't go to SU but I did have season tickets during the Pasqualoni years. Some good players then. Donovan, Marvin Harrison, Moose Johnston, Kevin Johnson, Dwight Freeney.

Didn't play Kent, Penn State was undefeated and ranked sixth when Syracuse beat them 48-21 that year.

I thought they didn’t play in 87. I’m going off a bad memory. But anyway
