What about Steve Breaston? or I think that was his name. He seemed to be good at Michigan the times I watched them. That dude ran like a greyhound with them long strides

One I just thought of, Hasheem Thabeet. I thought a 7 foot 3 guy with decent athleticism would hang around the NBA as long as he could still play.

Also, Perry Jones III from Baylor and Anthony Randolph from LSU. Athletic and skilled 6'10 guys are rare creatures, they just didn't have the mindset to make it in the league.

I thought Manningham was going to be great in the NFL for a long time. He was phenomenal at Michigan.

Greg Blue for Georgia. Hard hitting safety. Thought he'd play in the league. Never did.

If I had to pick a UGA safety for this category, it would be Sean Jones. Wasn't quite the hitter Blue was but he was great in coverage.

Ralph Sampson looked like he was going to have a HOF career from 83-87. Then the injuries started to pile up and he fell off the map. Sucks being a big man.

LaMichael James out of Oregon. Figured he'd have a similar career arc as Reggie at the pro level. Start out as a gadget guy then get a few 250+ carry seasons to finish it off.

I know he's 26 and can still catch somewhere and have a few breakout seasons. I just figured he'd have made his mark by now.

I thought Lendale White would be a stud tailback for close to a decade. Never could understand why that didn't work out - but the fact he claimed to lose 25 pounds in an offseason (by cutting back on his drinking) is probably a clue.

Matt Leinart - when he was tearing it up at USC i was convinced he would be a franchise QB for somebody.

Courtney Brown - Was a monster at Penn State and thought he would be a sack machine for the new Browns for a decade.

Charles Scott - I thought he would be a solid RB in the NFL at the very least.

Dontrelle Willis. Great first 2 or 3 years of his career then just flamed out

Once hitters were able time that high leg lift, he was done. He ended up having change his mechanics because he became so ineffective

I wouldn't have been surprised to find out Rogers was in his mid 40s in college. Dude always looked old AF.

Great one.

Also take your pick of Alabama DBs.

Jared Mitchell from LSU is another.

Leinart didn't have the arm for the NFL. Charles Scott didn't have the speed for the NFL. I wasn't surprised by either of those.

I'm going to go with a guy I went to High School with. I think injuries sort of derailed his career, but he's a coach at Arizona State now. His name is Rudy Burgess:

quote:

One of the most versatile athletes and one of the top all-purpose threats in the nation during his Sun Devil career … was ASU's "jack-of-all-trades", having played wide receiver, tailback, cornerback, kickoff and punt returner and has also thrown a touchdown pass during his Sun Devil career … became only one of 14 players in FBS history to record over 1,000 rushing, receiving and returns yards … was a true fan-favorite for his team-first mentality … also one of only four all-time Pac-10 Conference players and one of only three active athletes in 2007 to have earned that distinction, and the only player in ASU football history to achieve that mark … a true team player, he did anything and everything Sun Devil coaches asked of him, including three position changes … moved back to wide receiver full-time as a senior after spending time also playing cornerback in 2006 … was the only active player in the Pac-10 Conference with over 1,000 career rushing and receiving yards when he entered his senior season … earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors twice (2005 and 2007) … has accumulated 4,379 career all-purpose yards with 19 total touchdowns on 446 total touches (229 carries for 1,093 yards and six touchdowns; 125 receptions for 1,536 yards and 12 touchdowns; 68 kickoff returns for 1,517 yards and one touchdown; 31 punt returns for 233 yards) … averaged 9.8 yards every time he touched the ball over his career and averaged 97.3 all-purpose yards-per-game for his career … appeared in 45 games with 25 starts … is an excellent special teams coverage athlete as well, totaling 14 career tackles (12 solo) between time spent as a defensive back and on special teams.
