I think you're greatly misinterpreting the average Cardinals fan reaction to this signing.

I never thought the Rangers should (or would) go after Pujols (though I didn't see the Halos as a destination) and I don't think Fielder is worth the risk either. Actually I'm happy with the odd arrangement of Mitch/MY/Napdog at first.

The concern is the mound. I knew CJ was gone and I thought if the Halos made him an offer he would go home. But Feliz is NOT the answer in the starting rotation (he's another Bobby Witt).

I read the whole thing. But it's still BPiA, the homerun windtunnel/oven that it always has been.

Actually, it might've been 27.

It was 26. He turned 27 late in his first season.

But he had been pitching for over 6 years in the NPB and never had a season that was as good as Yu's is what I was getting at.

Yu has been better. In Japan. Show me one Japanese pitcher that has come over and had sustained success. Hiroki Kuroda? Even then he's slightly above average.

No way is Darvish worth $100+

I agree Holland can be an ace. Remember the big discussion is that he should have started Game 7 instead of CJ. But that adds only 2-3 more wins than he had this year (he had I believe 17 this year). Still need to replace CJ's win total notwithstanding his postseason crap.

You do realize the off season isn't over yet? It's just getting started. We have plenty of pieces on the farm that could facilitate a trade to replace a chunk of Wilson's numbers.

Don't laugh but if Feldman can get his 95 MPH sinker working again, and given the opportunity, double digit wins in my opinion is definitely attainable.

For 1-2 innings at best. And this year he was WAY down from his ROY season. If you remember Bobby Witt you see where this is going.

I agree he regressed from the prior year. Still extremely young with loads of potential. Ogando was able to make the transition, and Feliz has the better stuff.

Then why is he in discussions to be traded?

Speculation and/or could be a centerpiece to an even bigger deal.

Nope. DFW native who grew up seeing the Rangers fail and fail again. And watching the same pattern from the one other time I thought they might be showing signs of success.

Well then you're just bitter we lost the last two WS. Hell I am too... but this is far from a sinking ship. We have the payroll, the organization depth, the management, the coaching, the players to continue to make a splash year in year out. We lost Cliff Lee last year and didn't add anyone... how did that turn out? We won the division and had a WS ring within our grasp.

Buck up. The sky isn't falling.

I heard earlier that they thought the Cubs were asking too much, but that might've changed with Buehrle and CJ gone.

Aside from "The Decision", isn't Pujols leaving the Cards as bad as Lebron leaving the Cavs? I mean Pujols didn't even have trying to win a title factored in....money seems to be the only reason he left.

"As bad" is a purely subjective statement. If you factor in Lebron saying stupid stuff and having the bad grace to have a press conference to announce his decision I would say Lebron handled the transition in a less professional and more self centered way.

But I never begrudged Lebron the right to play for who he wanted to play for and I find the stories of him trying to lure Bosch and others to Cleveland as credible. So no hate for Lebron from me

RE: Pujols. I think the motivation is more plainly revealed as money not championships. Even as a STL fan I don't have any ill will towards Pujols tho - he just wanted a longer contract with more money than makes sense for any team IMO

It obviously was not about winning championships tho. AP just went where the most money was when he already had a pretty good path to the playoffs and WS in STL

Hiroki was 32 years old when he came over and yet, he was still fairly successful. And, again he wasn't nearly as successful as Yu was in the NPB. Now, I agree he isn't worth over $100 million. But realistically, I would pay around $75 million total, posting and contract, to sign him but unfortunately, its going to be way higher then that.

Wilson + Pujols both left plenty of money on the table to not sign with Miami

I could MAYBE see $75 but you would be looking at a low posting fee. He's said he wants more than Matsuaka who got 52/6. It'll be at least 60/5 if I had to guess. His posting is expected to be over $52 BUT I could see it being lower. Boston outbid the Mets who were around $40-mil.

He's going to cost someone $100-million minimum. Unfortunately, I think it'll be NY.

The Marlins offered Albert 10 years at $275m with clauses that make it reach $300m and Wilson was offered 5 years $100m according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today

Stagg8, you're right. Most everyone is misinterpreting the average Cardinal fan reaction to Poo-holes leaving.

Poo-holes wasn't a one man team. He hasn't been great in the post season. He never won a World Series MVP. In fact, the people who propelled the Cardinals into this year's World Series are a bunch of no namers who played hard and never gave up. The hometown kid, Freese, and the other no namers (Berkman, Holliday, and Carpenter excluded) won the championship for the Cardinals. Pujols had a great game 3. Oh well. If Freese wouldn't have stepped up in game 6 at the exact right moment, we would've lost to the Rangers. We won because God (not Poo-holes) happened to be a Cardinals fan this year.

We'll win again and we'll do it without the best player in baseball. The Cardinals have a history of winning playoff games and championships (11 total - second only to the Yankees) without the best players in baseball.

Poo-holes can retire an Angel. Let's see if the people in California parade him around the ballpark and worship him until he dies like St. Louis does with her baseball legends (ie. Musial). Poo-holes had that super rare chance to be King of an entire city for the rest of his life! Instead, he'll end his career simply as a good DH.

Oh well...God is still a fan. And, God doesn't switch teams after winning a championship. God will forever be a Cardinal fan...period.

I would think the players union would basically force Pujols and Wilson to take those contracts because they are so much higher.
