They traded Scuderi for Daley, but kept most of Scuderi's salary. I don't get that move. OK, I get getting rid of Scuderi, and Daley is a better player, but now the Pens have even less cap flexibility than they did yesterday without really upgrading that much. They've positioned themselves to be sellers at the deadline, not buyers. And I don't think that will go over real well with Penguin fans. They are right up against the cap.
Really, they have to move either Kessel or Malkin. Maybe not this year, but soon (assuming Sid and Letang are untouchable). Who takes on those salary hits for guys who may be leaving their primes? That Kessel deal is the Semin deal for Rutherford all over again.
The most concerning thing is the Penguins lost their heads again in the final five minutes of the game. Lots of petulant play and silly cheapshots. They need to clean that stuff up. The book is out on the Pens, and has been since that Flyers series: they are mentally soft.

Yeah I guess the question is what would a team be willing to give up for Kessel? You have to be willing to get less than you give. If you move Malkin you can get some definite value.
Who cares? Rangers have a chance to not suck on defense again against Edmonton tonight :)

Stars rock Colombus 5-1. Seguin nets two.
Really about to start hitting some divisional games. Should be interesting.

I wish Bergy would take advantage of SJ being in town and make an offer for Marleau. He could help us immensely. Especially with all our injuries. Plus he's at the tail end and would likely come cheaper than a Kessel or Malkin
Question is, would he be happy on the 2nd line? Mad Max has the top line LW on lock.
Just to give me a full on boner, I wouldn't know what to do with myself if these were our top 2 lines...
Max / Desharnais / Gallagher
Marleau / Plekanec / Galchenyuk

Here's the last week in Penguins hockey:
-- Letang out for two weeks w/ upper body injury
-- head coach and assistant fired
-- trade of defensemen during the caps game
-- Beau Bennett out 4-6 weeks w/ injury after the Oshie hit
-- Fleury out at least 10 days due to concussion
on one of the pens message boards someone posted in essence: Johnston's gone, sutter's gone, scuderi's gone -- now who's the scapegoat?

Is Kane still on his streak?

It ended last night, they were blanked by the Avs 3-0. Im almost nervous for the Stars in this divisional stretch coming up. The remainder of games this month will really show the true face of this team.

You left off Dupuis retiring. Yeah, it's been a rough two weeks for the Pens, and they have won only 2 of their last 8. That's... not good. Without Fleury, it could get worse.
And it looks like Beau broke his collarbone. Oshie blew him up.

i can't believe I forgot Dupuis.
Fleury's concussion apparently came to light after the Caps game.

Nope. Because Varlamov owns Chicago.

The Winnipeg Jets are facing more than $152 million worth of future contract demands from three key players who are in expiring years of their contracts.
League and player sources have confirmed that Jets captain Andrew Ladd has asked for a six-year deal worth at least $41 million, that defenceman Dustin Byfuglien has requested $55 million over eight years and that defenceman Jacob Trouba wants more than $56 million over the maximum eight years allowed in the league’s CBA with its players.

Of course Max Talbot scores a goal against the Penguins.

Ryan Johansson is a healthy scratch tonight vs the Coyotes.

Tom Wilson got another reputation penalty. The odd thing is: Wilson has never been suspended by the league for an illegal hit, but he is perhaps one of the most scrutinized players in the league by the officials. He touches a guy, he gets a penalty.
Some of that is earned. He has played near the line, and in the past two seasons, he's among the league leaders in fights. He plays with sand. That said, he's never been suspended before, and he got a match penalty for this:
I'm not even sure that's a penalty. He hits with his hips, makes no contract with the head, doesn't leave his feet, and hell, stays in his lane. And the opposing player had the puck, so it's not even interference. This is the ultimate reputation call.

Yeah bad call. Also a bad call? Not getting enough quality shots if you are the Rangers last night, while giving up a ton of quality shots.
Congrats to Chris Drury for making it into the HOF. Local boy does good.

So, the NHL is kind of fricked because it looks like fan voting is going to make John Scott an All-Star captain.

Fan voting for the NHL All-Star Game’s four divisional team captains opened on Dec. 1, and almost immediately an unexpected name rose to the top to the leaderboard: John Scott, the Arizona Coyotes goon who has appeared in nine games with an average ice time of 6 minutes and 15 seconds (*).
It’s now Dec. 18, which means we’re two weeks away from the fan vote closing. John Scott continues to lead all vote-getters with a grand total of ... … um … wait, I know it’s here …
Huh, weird: We literally have no idea how many votes he has. Because the NHL has never revealed his vote total, or any of them for this season.

ya have to love how Tarasenko has blossomed as a goal scorer.
I tried to tell my Blues buddies when he was drafted, the kid will be for real, he has the skills to finish. Finding those guys can take you a decade of drafts to even sniff one close to a pure finisher, if ur that lucky.
