I feel like all these programs just had a few years of success and are returning to normal now (except maybe Cal)

not really a decline, just restoration of order

Georgia's not declining. They're in the same position they've been since Richt got there... second or third best team in the east with an occasional east title.

Yeah we averaged 8 wins

It doesn't even make sense. Richt has been at UGA for 13 years. The east division only fricking existed for 9 years before he got there

Aggies had one good year and now are back to the levels they were pre-Manziel. I don't feel like coming down from an outlier is really a decline.

VT is a good one. Beamer had a great run but is going the way of Bowden. Game is passing him by.

Michigan isn't declining. They bottomed out under Rich Rod and are experiencing a 2008 stockmarket-esque recovery (either really slow or not really a recovery)

My top 5

Arkansas- The were #3 in the nation playing #1 LSU in the regular season finale, they have won 2 SEC games since then.

Colorado- In 2005 Gary Barrent won the Big 12 North for the 4th time in five years. He was let go before the bowl game. Mike Hankwitz, Dan Hawkins, Brian Cabral, Jon Embree, and Mike MacIntyre have all served as HC since Barrent and CU has yet to have a winning season.

Tennessee- Lane Kiffen has been hired& fired out West and he still the last Vol coach to have a winning season. Their last bowl win was the game after they lost the SECCG to a Ryan Perrilloux led LSU team.

West Virginia- After beating the tar out of Clemson in the Orange Bowl they are 11-14; half of those games were with the Tavon Austin & Geno Smith.

Virginia- After Al Groh took Virginia to 5 bowl games in six years, Virginia has had 5 losing seasons in six years, didn't win an ACC game.

We are the new duke of the acc. It's ridiculous with the amount of talent in VA and emphasis we place on our overall athletic program. How can literally every program be above average but our football program be so putrid

so I looked back at Georgia's SEC East finishes, and they're actually a little better than I thought.

2007 1
2006 3
2005 1
2004 2

winning the East 4 of the last 10 years isn't too shabby

but I was arguing that you're not in a decline, and those numbers just reinforce my argument

can you really say Arkansas is on a decline when they went 0-8 in the SEC this year?

Sure it's a fast decline but right now they've gotta be on the bottom of it

right?

right???

Virginia like Colorado has been so bad for such a period that people tend for forget about them.

I don't know, if I had to bet, I would bet against them making a bowl next year. They are dead last in the West in recruiting for the 3rd year in a row, this year they are even behind Kentucky. Until their coach wins a conference game, I'm not sure where they are at.

Colorado deserves it (and then some).

Oregon- I think they reached their peak with Chip Kelly. People have figured out their offense it seems and I don't see them reaching their former success.

Stanford- Another team that seems to have reached its peak with Jim Harbaugh and Andrew Luck. This one I'm not so sure about but I don't see Stanford hanging around with the elite programs long term.

Georgia- Yet another season of unmet expectations for the Bulldogs. Mark Richt's seat has to be getting hot

You people saying Florida really have no clue about what you are talking about.

We went 11-2 last year, and was a ND loss against USC or Pitt away from a NCG apperance. Now we have played and coached like a trash fire this year( mainly due to injuries and a terrible OC), but make no mistake that we will right the ship.

Actual programs on the decline:

Texas/OU: Increasing instate competition and laziness has eliminated their advantage in the B12, and has OSU and Baylor to now run that conference.

VT: Frank Beamer has built that program, but he has now run it's course.

USC: CSS isn't the hire to bring them back imo. Oregon, UCLA, ARizona, and ASU are all legit programs now, and USC is going to find hard to overcome all of them again.

UT/Nebraska: Lack of instate talent plus terrible coach have doomed these two programs. Pelini needs to go imo. Too early to judge Jones on one year.

Michigan: They suffer the same thing Florida suffers from: Lack of a dynamic QB. People were shitting on Robinson while he was there, but Gardner is actually worse than he is. And why do they not have a legit defense yet little brother Michigan St. seems to have one every year?

West Virginia/TCU: The Move to the Big-12 has only hurt these schools who used to rule their previous conferences. It's only year two though.

You can't deny that the offense has been no where near the quality that it could be. UF's defense has been gritty and where it should be.

But to reference last year is a bit of joke. It's EXTREMELY rare for a program with no offense to achieve what UF did last year.

I'm surprised penn state hasn't been mentioned yet.

Also, Nebraska, Boise state, michigan, and tennessee

these are the correct answers IMO. All (save Boise) were once among the nation's greatest programs and most of those now face uphill battles in terms of recruiting and a leveled playing field for program exposure

The decline of Nebraska & Tennessee shouldn't surprise anyone. Michigan is still trying to change their philosophy around.

Oklahoma has been just as consistent, if not more so, than LSU. Since 2000 they have won their conference 8 times. LSU has 3 conference titles in that same time period. They have been to 8 BCS games in that time period. LSU has been to 5. Of those 8 BCS appearances, 4 of them were made in the national title game. LSU has appeared in the national title game 3 times. Granted LSU has won more national titles over that time period (2 vs. 1).
