didn’t set LSU back that much, but it blasted Bama off into the stratosphere, and from an LSU perspective, that’s the same thing. CFB isn’t played in a vacuum
I'd argue the 2012 regular season loss to Bama set LSU back more.
LSU had Bama on the ropes to (presumably) win the West and play UGA for the right to beat up on ND.

A&M: 1995 at Colorado
I know Nebraska that year was truly special, but a win in Boulder would have put A&M on a different trajectory in the following years, if not helped them win a share of the title. They were preaseason #1 in one of the polls, but that loss coupled with Leland McElroy's injury in that game screwed everything up.

Could argue the '09 SECCG for Florida. They've popped up and had success every now and then, but their program is nowhere near the height they were under Meyer.

ULM over then number 8 Arkansas 2012... trust me... I was there

USC remained strong the following two years, but the 06 loss to UCLA was really bad. The offense only scored one freaking TD against a mediocre ucla team.

Miles should've been canned directly after that game. Should've made him buy his own ticket home.

Georgia's trifecta against Alabama (2012 SECCG, 2017 NC, 2018 SECCG) has mentally mindfricked that team possibly beyond repair. Every time they play Alabama now, it is 14-0 before the game starts.
it's 100-0 in my eyes. i am irreparably broken by alabama and will be the first to admit it.

Miami losing to LSU 40-3 in the Peach Bowl

Florida St losing to Alabama in the season opener in 2017 basically derailed that program completely.
Miami’s loss to LSU in the 2005 Chick-fil-a Bowl signaled the end of the U as a power in college football.
Texas was never the same after losing to Alabama in the 2009 BCS National Title Game. In fact, 2020 was their first season since then with less than 4 regular season losses. They had 3 losses in just 9 regular games

I think it was the 07 loss to Stanford that ended them.

I had to go back to make sure of their record when they beat UGA in the "we're baaack" Sugar Bowl. Could have sworn they had a better record than that but apparently not. Just makes it all the more hilarious that Ehlinger made that proclamation after posting a 4 loss season in the Big 12

USC vs. UCLA 1967 - ever since then UCLA became USC's little brother and never really challenged for #1 National status again.
(The UCLA Bruins, 7–0–1 and ranked No. 1, with senior quarterback Gary Beban as a Heisman Trophy candidate, played the USC Trojans, 8–1 and ranked No. 4, with junior running back O. J. Simpson also as a Heisman candidate.
This game is widely regarded as the signature game in the UCLA–USC rivalry as well as the first Game of the Century. The 64-yard run by Simpson for the winning touchdown is regarded as one of the greatest run plays in college football.)
Beban won the Heisman, USC won the National Championship and UCLA fell off the landscape as a National Power and became a try-hard regional power.

Since that game (11 seasons) the highest they’ve finished in the B12 is second, twice
6th 4 times
3rd 3 times
4th and 5th, 1 time each

yeah but we’re still talking about 1-9-12. One great year for LSU hasn’t put a dent into the Alabama dominance since then
It’s not about putting a dent on it, it’s about breaking a program
LSU bounced back and won a title, not fade into obscurity
But this current investigation might end all that for LSU! Also might take away the 2019 LSU Championship!

2019 definitely erased the bad taste of 1/9 in a lot of ways. It will always be there to some degree but it’s been faded significantly, I know Alabama fans don’t want to hear that bc they want to be able to hold that over us forever but tbh when you okay for 4 NCs in 16 years and only lose one that’s a pretty good batting average.

The 2019 season doesn’t happen if 1/9/12 doesn’t happen so meh
2011 was fun asf (my freshman year at LSU) but nothing will top 2019 in my lifetime when you consider the schedule, the Heisman/QB play, the NCG opponent, and the season ending in New Orleans

Clemson loss to West Virginia in the 2012 orange bowl. 70-33
This led to them firing their D-coordinator and hiring Brent Venables.
Since this move Clemson hasn't lost more than 3 games in a season. Played in 4 national championships and won 2 of them. Made the playoffs 6 times.
Venables wasn't that great at Oklahoma. So what made him do wonders at Clemson?
