magic needed several #1 picks to win. Bird needed 0 #1 picks to win

But Birds prime was better than Magic's. However, Magic's career and legacy are better than Bird's. IMHO. One game or season in their prime, give me Larry
It is interesting in retrospect that Larry busted up his hand in a barfight in Chelsea's in the 1985 playoffs (during the ECF)
With that injury diminishing his play the Lakers beat the Celtics heads up in six games. Had Bird not gotten into that barfight they arguably would have won three straight championships and Bird finished with the better overall legacy.
That same off-season Bird also injured his back building his mother a driveway. He was kind of a shithead when it came to protecting his body so he could play basketball.

he had to play center in a series, and was mvp???

Magic is better than Bird period. By all who played and covered the game.

Magic played one game at center. He'd get abused if he played there night after night.

That is the opposite of fact

I’m 34 years old so I didn’t see him play live just clips and if we’re being honest we got people in here that are in the same boat but are convinced they are right one way or the other

That was one game at center based on the documentary best of enemies

Bird easily over Magic.

Magic and bird both changed the nba forever when they came into the league.
If I want a shooting forward I want Bird. If I want a Point guard I want Magic. It’s hard to compare the two because of the type of effect they each had on the game.

Bird had one of the best primes ever when he dominated the NBA but it was only 6-7 years...healthy Bird.
He was still great later but with his ruined back he was never the all-around do everything player...shooting, passing, rebounding, hustle all over the court guy.

Great, you want a cookie? Doesn't mean I have to agree with them. I think Bird's individually but it isn't by much.

I'd probably put LeBron at 3 behind Duncan. Duncan's a CRIMINALLY underrated GOAT candidate because he was very soft-spoken and wasn't demonstrative. When it comes to sports marketing, there are consequences associated with such moves. I'd also put Bird above Magic by a spot but not more, they're inextricably linked but Bird had a better all-around game from a shooting perspective. Also, I'd put Hakeem and Malone in top 10, those players were legendary but underrated on this list, particularly Malone.

I like Bird, but he played with some all time greats too. And….
McHale: 3rd overall in 1980
Parish: 8th overall in 1976

Yes Bird was better. If your name isn’t Michael Jordan he was better.
Bird didn’t just score, he out rebounded you, he was sneaky fast if you tried to get a pass by him.
The fact he dragged an unknown team all the way to the NCAA finals should give you a clue.
Plus I loved how he’d trash talk guys telling them exactly what he was going to do and then did it.
