Cobb wasn’t the easiest person to get along with, to say the least, and probably had some emotional if not mental issues. Given the fact that his mother killed his father, whom he revered, with a shotgun when he sneaked into her room thinking she was screwing around on him, right before he came up to the majors, and the hazing he took when he came up to the Tigers wasn’t just cruel it was sadistic, it’s not surprising.
Plus the authors of the most recent, most accurate biographies have IMO gone too far in trying to show that because his father was anti-slavery and he had good things to say about Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays, Cobb was secretly a bastion of racial tolerance. He was a man of his time, no worse or better than anyone else.
But he never sharpened his spikes, he never killed a man and he never beat up a Black groundskeeper and tried to strangle his wife (that story was made up by one of Cobb’s teammates who hated him).
He did go into the stands and start a fight with a heckler who used a racial epithet at him, and was rightfully punished, but the dude had a screw loose and had been screaming at Cobb literally for years when he’d come to NY to play, and he had both his arms, he was just missing all but two of his fingers.
The Stump writings on Cobb were utter bulls**t, he was a hack writer plus he was dealing with a man with terminal cancer, but the truth lies between that and folks who think Cobb divided the fishes and fed the multitudes.

He’s banned by MLB actually agreed to be banned by MLB not the sports writers. Not that facts are important to Trumpkins I realize. Also this pardon is an empty gesture since it’s a private organization

So that makes it okay Rose broke the one rule posted in every clubhouse?

I get Stump has been discredited on several fronts but let's not go completely the other way and make a saint of this guy.
Like I said there are other sources out there more accurate than Stump out there that show while he may not have been the full blown tyrant Stump portrays - that he was a bit more than just a man of his times not better or no worse as apologists may want to claim.

uld you have caught him on a bad day or days? Can you imagine never being left alone? How would you react?
Pete loved never being left alone.

Anyone who ever had any dealings with him would say the same thing.
I was at a Fort Myers Hooters once. He came in with a nice looking young lady. Took his seat near us. I got the nerve to ask for an autograph after he ordered and before his food came. He invited me and my buddies to sit and have lunch with him. Best hour I’ve ever spent in that place. He picked up our tab and thanked us for hanging out.

Technically speaking Rose had a lifetime ban, his life is over. Should the ban be lifted due to the specification of lifetime?

Why didn’t he do that in his 1st term???

lol exactly. Pete was not a likable guy. He bet on sports. Nonetheless, he has by far the most hits. Should be in the HOF regardless. And none of this sht is really that important to anyone.

I realize facts are nothing that matters in Trumpland but Rose signed an agreement to be banned the writers had nothing to do with it.

Pete was alive when Trump was in office the first time.
Strange timing.
To be fair, a lot of outgoing presidents just pardon shite tons of people that were in jail for their entire terms, so this isn't uncommon, it's just stupid.
