The thing about the NFL is it takes almost no stamina compared to soccer basketball boxing etc.
I can agree on this only to a certain extent.
I mean if you have a great offense who can eat clock the CB's aren't going to have a hard day fatigue wise, but when they are out there especially matched up against a good WR they have to go all out on every play. Also factor in that in the south you have players doing this in August heat in an outdoor stadium. Think of having to run as fast as you can repeatedly at 2:30 pm in late august in Tampa or Miami.
Basketball pg's need serious stamina no doubt. As with MMA fighters and wrestlers. Soccer as well, but while it involves a shitton of running, it's not like you are sprinting the full 90 mins. A match is 90 mins and the average player runs like 5 miles according to someone on the other page. That's only a mile every 18 mins.

I'd say wrestling produces your best pure athletes, but the best athletes probably go into basketball, football and baseball in the USA. Thats where you can make your major money. Most MMA don't make that much money and it is relatively new. If the payouts become greater, I think you could see more athletes sticking with wrestling in high school and college.

rugby players run as much as soccer players, tackle and are involved in more contact than football players, and have to have skills with the ball in hand and off the foot more than other sports. Same goes for Gaelic football and Aussie football, but wit more emphasis on the kicing game and playing the ball in the air . Hurling is like Gaelid football, Lacrosse, and hockey combined, played on a soccer field.

I will say playing in the out field and running down fly balls and throwing to a base is one of the purest forms of athletism.
so a couple runs under 50 yards and a couple catches in 3 hours will give you the best ATHLETE, is this a joke?

he just said it was a pure form of athleticism
this thread pops up ever so often, and in this version endurance seems to be a very highly-weighted characteristic
i don't personally put it that high. athleticism to me is more linked to explosive movements. pound-for-pound i say basketball, b/c there are a lot of BB guys in the 190-200 range (compared to football where that's rare)

It takes speed agility anticipation hand eye coordination leaping ability explosiveness body control and arm strength.

baseball will never be in this debate as long as a guy like Carlos Lee can play LF for the Astros and make serious $$$.
have you seen that fatass, he can barely run 20ft without giving out.

a sport you can chew gum and eat sunflowers to pass away the bordom is not an athletic sport, it comes close to not being a sport.

The seemingly endless duties of the Cleveland Indians grounds crew include sweeping the dugout to clear away chewed sunflower seed husks, tobacco pouches, gum wrappers and paper cups.

I say its the combat sports(Boxing MMA KickBoxing) and if I had to just pick one out of the 3 it would be Boxing(fights are 3x as long as K1 and UFC).
Have you ever tried to fight for 5 minute rounds though? That shite is extremely difficult. Pride used to have a 10 minute round......... go see if you can come close to hitting a heavy bag for 10 minutes straight.

Hockey...hand/eye coordination as well as extreme cardio, agility, and toughness necessary to play

Does someone really need to post pics of a bunch of fat linemen from the NFL? I don't think baseball comes close to producing the best athletes, but you can't just pick a few guys out for your argument.

wrestling
The combination of skill and technique required to be great, while difficult to recognize for an untrained eye to recognize, is off the charts. Even college wrestlers have to eat, sleep and breathe their craft to get to that level...virtually nobody is "born with it." The ones who compete at World Championships and the Olympics are absolute machines
Then there is part more obvious to the outside observer...the strength and stamina required. Anybody that has ever wrestled with their brother for 20 seconds understands this

The truly great baseball athletes have to have outstanding hand eye coordination both while hitting and playing defense. baseball is a physical grind. It's not as physically exerting per game compared to football and basketball, but at the end of the season, baseball players bodies are comparably as beat up and worn down.
I'm not saying baseball players are the best athletes however. Most skilled maybe, and there are some ridiculous baseball athletes, but overall not the most athletic
