Also, it’s not weird when you could see it coming a mile away. Those last 4 years were brutal.

I hate to be that guy (not really) but I hope the rest of his coaching career is a dumpster fire. I don’t usually wish ill of ppl but that guy is such a chode. And we had some “diehards” defending that clown until the day he was fired.

I simply do not follow the CPM criticism parade. Guy was a great coach here.

I don't follow him but assuming he's "throwing players under the bus," other great coaches have done so - Saban and Spurrier both were notorious for this. Heck, there was a time among this fan base when applauded CPM for doing this very thing.

If he was such a difficult coach to play for, why did so many great players continue to the end of his tenure choose to play for him?

He owned his peer group while here (DVH, Bianco, State).

It was time for him to go and he did, so what's the problem?

And still that tone of his voice sounds like fairy puss, he and BK would’ve hit it off as friends. But he did give LSU a Natty should’ve been 3 at least 2(2017).

"Brutal?"

How?

'21 - won a regional; made it to a super with a young team
'20 - Covid season (are we counting this season ell? Is it one of your four?)
'19 - won a regional: hosted a super
'18 - It was disappointing but losing to the eventual champs at their place isn't brutal.

You are talking about the guy who basically claimed half of the 2023 natty on a podcast because he recruited some of the players lol. The dudes ego doesn’t fit through the door.

What did he say? And what podcast?

I'm still hoping for the mainieri blueberries to compete with the savannah bananas.

Eta: maybe mainieri strawberries

No need to be too specific. Maineri Berries will do.

Most overrated Coach in baseball. Just my opinion.

His pitching decisions, especially in post season, blew my mind.

Nah, still weird.

Dude was a good coach who mailed it in for 2 years after he won in 09 and when his dad died and came up short in 2017.

That stretch from 2012-2017 was elite (just not up to Skip standards) and what he did to clean up Smoke's mess in quick work to be back in Omaha two years in and win a title three years in was great.

People act like he set the program back. Which he did not. LSU baseball was teetering because of Smoke's shite and Mainieri got it back to the forefront of the sport.

Not saying we have to celebrate the guy, but acting like he is some black mark on in the history of LSU baseball will always be retarded and weird.

How is he overrated when he is viewed as third behind Skip and now Jay?

“ Why do you care what he does? He's not the coach here anymore.”

We follow sports. Why don’t you shut up and follow with us?

The only reason we hosted a super in 2019 was because the team we were paired against lost.

2020 was going to be one of the worst teams of the PM era.

And 21 was an obvious reminder that we weren’t close at all to competing with the best.

As an LSU fan with LSU baseball standards, yes, those years were brutal.

And the underachieving of 2012, 2013, and 2015 didn’t help. 2017 result gave PM 2 extra years imo.

Jay needs to do the same to our hitting coach.

Jay is the hitting coach.

As far as Pulonary, that Truman Capote sounding pussy. When LSU won the Natty in '09, they won it despite him as their coach. No coaches want to coach under him, and players hate him. When Texas offered him the job as their HC, I was praying he'd take it, but no, we had him another 2-3 years. Always throwing players and coaches under the bus.

It worked out for us as we now IMO have the best coach in the country in JJ.

So what? In the first couple of years Saban was at Bama, he was doing the same shite. He was telling recruits that Les was only winning with his players. Coaches have egos... ALL OF THEM.

He was also actively coaching against Les.

PM was in the champions club, as a supposed "fan" of the program, bitching and moaning.

Wouldn't have made the tournament if we didn't announce the PM retirement before the post season.

It took Dugas and Crews to go absolutely nuclear to have a shot. We also scored the winning run in the game 7 game via balk.

This would have the worst team of the PM era.

Hosted because the other side of the bracket lost in their regional. Then got swept, at home, by Florida State.
quote:

'18 - It was disappointing but losing to the eventual champs at their place isn't brutal.

I mean we had to fight from behind against Northwestern State, then went 0-2 against Oregon State by a combined score of 26-1.

It's like saying Central Connecticut State was fine 2023, they just lost to the eventual champion at their place. We outscored them 39-4 in 2 games and 14 innings.

People don't hate on PM for no reason. He quit on the program. He wasn't recruiting, he was running good players out of the program, he was putting talented players into the doghouse for petty reason. He did all of that despite not giving anyone on his staff or roster the time of day.

Jay can hold guys to a higher standard because he holds himself to a higher standard. He doesn't get in front of the media and bitch and moan about his players' performance. PM did that constantly but still demanded perfection from his players. Was a hard guy to respect at the end.
